Would it be a mistake to sell Flo?

If you look at Henry's career before Arsenal, nobody could have predicted the player he would become. He was incredibly talented and he was also regarded as a "wonderkid" when he joined Monaco, but in his first 157 games (Monaco and Juventus) he managed 31 goals. He joined Arsenal at 22 and has gone on to become one of the greatest strikers of the past decade. His record is incredible 226 goals in 364 games. In the league it's even more impressive 174 goals and 77 assists in 254 games so he has either set up or scored 251 goals in 254 games.

Flo is 22 now, he is having a great season in Spain and he is still ours. Recreativo were favourites for relegation this season, but are 7th in the table and Flo has scored 25% of their league goals. There is now talk of him being sold for around £3m, surely that's a waste.

I'm not saying he will become another Henry, but he is a talented youngster with an eye for goal, and I can't help thinking that to sell him now would be a great opportunity lost.

I can see your point, very much so, but surely Henry showed glimpses of what he is capable of. Sadly, I haven't seen much of that from Pongo in a Red shirt.

I like Flo, but am pretty sure that he has gone on record saying he is happier in Spain and would prefer to be sold and stay there. If that happens, then good look to the lad. He put in effort and, unlike the other "gem", didn't sulk and mouth off to the press.

I think Henry wsnt given much of a central strikers chance at Juve, and only had his chance at Arsenal. He has had chances as the central striker at LFC - and been good but not good enough

However 3 million is too low amount, as I see him being a full international soon, and playing for a big Spanish/EPL team
        We need better attacking players!

Can't see him been given a run of games at LFC.

Probably let him go with a sell-on fee clause, and a buy-back clause. (a la FM2007!)

Problem for Flo is that he is not Spanish, or an Argie.

Pongolle was treated poorly at LFC and deserves the chance to play some football, score goals and enjoy himself out in Spain.

I think he's a talented young lad, but if we can get 3-5m for the lad I think it's in everyone's interests to sell.

I'm in agreement with you, I think he is a cracking little player and would like to see him develop into a top striker for us, but I dont see him being afforded the opportunity or the time to do so with us.

Im fed up with people comparing young "wonderkids" to the start of Henry's career. Flo is no henry. He has looked a handy player, nothing more. We need top quality players from now on. Move on

You can't compare the two when it comes to their first few years in professional football. Henry was a winger at both Monaco and Juve. Wenger converted him into a striker as soon as he moved to Arsenal and the rest is history.

As for Flo, I actually think he's going to develop into a good player but sadly it doesn't look like Rafa rates him at all. If he rated him then Fowler wouldn't have got another year and Flo would currently be our 3rd/4th choice striker.

In that situation, you have to sell and try and get as much as you can.

There is no other option, IMO.

FWIW, I reckon FloPo was one of those players who seemed not to understand what Rafa wanted of them and thus did not follow his instructions
This kind of player really pisses him off.
Examples of the kind of player I mean - Baros, Cissé, Le Tellac and probably, dare I say it, Scott Carson.
All of whom have been sold or marginalised by Rafa.

He alluded to this phenomenon last week when talking about Daniel Agger:

"The good thing about Daniel is that he listens. I was speaking to him a few days ago about some small details and I knew he was listening to what I was saying, that he was working out in his own mind whether what I was talking about was true or not. Sometimes you ask players to do things and they just say 'okay boss'. I know they have heard me but haven't really listened. It's different with Daniel. He takes it all in."
