The academy costs us about £2M a year.
You don`t need players making it very often to have a sound investment.
You also need a state-of-the-art academy to attract the best foreign prospects.
I`m not very impressed so, far but still won`t label it a failure. (I know you haven`t, but some people do)

interesting 2m a year should be f/all to a club of liverpools stature......if nobody came through it would still be a sound investment for the community and pr of liverpool.....i think thats how heighway saw it as well !!

Just was having a look at a great site....www.koptalk.com( like ****) nah this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool_F.C._Reserves has some great info on our ressies and academy. check out how many players have made the grade, only 2 since 2000!

interesting that none of the above have had any success(everton success doesnt count) and Keith burkinshaw, wtf??

very interested to hear your definition of "made it".

there is not a single player on that list - okay maybe sheedy in 1984-6 but whelan was pretty good himself - that could be said to have gone on to be better than his lfc counterpart.

contrast that with the scum releasing the likes of beardsley and david platt who would have WALKED backi into their side.

the lfc management of the era of your list did an A1 job of selecting those who'd "make it"

'made it' played elsewhere anywhere after Liverpool fc is a step down. My point was exactly yrs.....hence why i put 'interesting that none of the above have had any success(everton success doesnt count)'

Mike Newell has a Premiership winners medal, hasn't he? More than he'd have got at Anfield, sadly.
                    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

yeah i thought the same, some useful player (putteril, Lindfield Ryan and Barnett) but no one amazingly special.

if they dont get a chance to play and they havent had that sort of chance (SG aside) since owen came into the team then theyre never going to make it.
you simply cannot tell if a player will make the grade/step up until he actually plays.
ian rush would never have made it these days nor would many others

Sadly, unless our reserves are allowed to play in a lower division, the chance of anyone "making it" is very difficult.

Just look at this site as one example, we are talking about needing an Alves or an Eto'o, so where does that leave an Anderson or a Lindfield.

I don't think the likes of Gerrard or Owen or Fowler made it, I think they always had it and we were extremely lucky to have them on our books. It's very much the same with Rooney.

I think the only one who "made it" was Carra.

It would take a major overhaul of the way the Reserves are run if a stream of young talent is to make it through the Liverpool ranks. And that is the same for United, Arsenal and Chelsea. There just isn't the time or the patience for it to happen anymore.

Not really, he left us at a time when we were winning ****ing everything.

I don't think we should have let John Welsh go. he had top potential

                              Obviously hasn't filled it yet

Who did he win the premiership with? Everton don't count because they last one the league in 1987.
