    Arbeloa

Continuing on from the closed Fratton park today thread.

    Just watching Football First.

Arbeloa MUST NOT play on Tuesday.

I really believe he could be a weak link for us,
his positioning for their second goal was outrageous.
he had a mare today by the looks of things..

Run ragged by Bejani and Joe Cole or that other knobhead fancy boy LB could take the piss out of him on Tuesday

    Anyone disagree?

havnt seen the highlights yet, but based on recent performances, am not filled with confidence about the thought of him playing, no doubt, he was superb against Barca, a team and tempo he should know well from his days in Spain, but I think the prospect of him playing another game against the chavs may be just a little too much for him at this early stage in such an important match, having said that, I don't think we have too many options for the full back positions at the moment.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

He started well but his performances have dropped recently. The lad obviously has alot of quality but it might be right for him to sit it out on Tuesday.

I have full confidence that he will no doubt become an excellent player for us when he has a full pre-season under his belt.

He's been immaculate since day one but has now put in two consecutive stinkers. He looked bloody hapless today.

        Bad vibes man. Bad Josemi-vibes.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Absolutely no doubt the lad will be good for the future.

He may well get found out on the right if he is exposed on Tuesday though.
May play better as a LB with Riise in front.

He looks better on the left than on the right but that may just be a coincidence. I would prefer Finnan to start if he's fit. Perhaps Arbeloa is an option for the left with Riise in front of him?

He's had two bad games ffs he's been superb in the games before these, one of our best players in a couple of the games. He's only started 9 games, in 6 of those he's played really well and been singled out for praise for people on here, so fickle, he's bound to have an off day or two, all players do, he's in a different league with different style of play and team mates, I've been impressed with him so far, he's just low on confidence cause he had a bad game against Chelsea, today he turned out with the reserves in a half hearted team performance, not really the game you need to get your confidence back. His ability is there to see, give the lad a chance, get behind him, not on his back.

strange how he has looked so much better at left back but he has also played very well linking up with pennant.
                        give the guy a chance
besides finnan will be back on tuesday

He played really well at home to Arsenal and away to Reading, two games which weren't exactly formalities or easy games when you've come from a different league.

To be honest, the first time I seen him I thought he looked decent, when we lost away to Newcastle he came on and got involved on a cold miserable day, unlike some of our recent crap foreign signings.

He's had a couple of games were he has lacked a bit of confidence and I just think putting him in at right back on Tuesday could be a liability for us.

We can't afford for anyone to have "AN OFF DAY" on Tuesday night.

Depends on what options are available though doesn't it..

I'd put Finnan in personally, but its gonna be such a high tempo game match fitness will be essential, and Finnan is short of match fitness.
