I know you are just being provocative but if you can't see that Bent is better than most PL forwards then you have problems. it is arguablt that he isn't good enough for a top four side but he is a very good player.

Mate, I've watched Bent a fair number of times and I've seen nothing, nothing really to whet my appetite. He has decent movement off the ball, but apart from that, he's nothing of the required standard of a top 4, let alone a premiership player.

It's a testament to how poor England is, that Darren Bent is regularly one of 4 forwards usually selected for International duty, and that list also includes Andy Johnson.

I'm not entirely sure about him but he is a good finisher with head and right foot. Has good movement and pace. He needs to move to a team which a/ don't leave him isolated up front and b/ will work on his weaknesses but I genuinely think he has a lot of potential. his record of goal scoring considering the lack of service he recieves alone shows that he would do well if given a chance at say Blackburn, Bolton, Everton or Newcastle.

In a way I would agree with you about England in as much as he is clearly not a Michael Owen style talent who deserves his place on shear talent but the sort of player who needs work to make him good enough at the highest level.

I agree that Bent could have some potential waiting to be unearthed, but we need proven talent, players who would be able to compete with the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, Drogba week in week out, Bent's just not going to do that I'm sure of that.

He reminds me so much of what happened with Heskey, so much potential, but he was never able to progress, even at a club like ours.

I was at the Cahrlton game last night, Bent is the new Heskey on that showing. He has pace but his movement was very poor, can't pass, can't hold the ball. One match isn't enough to judge a player but not for me on that performance.

                  Berbatov on the other hand...

                    Sorry, I'll be off then.

Were you there with any Charlton fans? I was just wondering what they thought of him. I would admit that I only see Charlton a few times a season and then only on TV so I am always judging him on limited information. It would be interesting to hear what people who saw him week in week out thought.

Berbatov has started to look like an exceptional player of late. He ttok a while to bed in but he is a very elegant player.

Not sure if they rate him, they were all a bit quiet after the game and it didn't seem the right time to ask.

I overheard one bloke saying that West Ham are after him if they stay up

                                Snippet from the Echo today

So to quote the Arctic Monkeys, my 'Favorite Worst Nightmare' is about to come reality.

Bent is clearly too good to begin next season outside the Premiership, and the manner in which he thumped Charlton into the lead may have been an appropriate taste of what’s to come.

While the supporters still dream of £30m bids for Samuel Eto’o, Benitez has shown in the past he’s more inclined to spend much less on players with the hunger and desire to take the step up.
