They bought Liverpool totally on or around 26th March.

I suppose the signing of him wouldve had to have gone by Hicks and Gillet since they owned atleast half the club by then.
So Rafa did have the chance to pull out of the deal, as I suspected Voronin was a longer term target.

Andrei Voronin's agent has confirmed that the Bayer Leverkusen striker will join Liverpool on a four-year deal in the summer.

"It's a four-year deal," Golovash told local media.

"We had some other options but Liverpool have always remained our priority.

"We agreed everything long before but only now decided to announce the signing."
"I have decided to escape, to defy the shogun. Today I will begin walking the road to hell. But you will choose your own path. So, soon you may be seeing heaven. Choose the sword, and you will join me. Choose the ball and you join your mother, in death. You don’t understand my words, but you must choose. So… come boy, choose life or death."

Rafa probably signed him up on a free because he didn't knew for sure that the takeover would happen.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Newcastle chairman calls for loyalty pledge from Owen
            tribalfooball.com - May 09, 2007

Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd is calling on striker Michael Owen to pledge his loyalty to the Magpies.

The £16million England striker has been linked with a summer exit despite spending most of the season on the sidelines following his World Cup knee injury.

But Toon chairman Shepherd said: "Michael has two choices - either he comes out and tells our fans, who have taken him to their hearts, he is happy here or I tell him not one of the big four clubs are interested in him.

"Because that's the case and the loyalty this club has shown him deserves something in return."
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

Now I'm very sure that at least one of the top four want Owen but I don't believe it's us.

              Shepherd sounds desperate.

Owen won't be coming this season, so bottle it.

I said that I thought that he won't come to us.

Rafa has probably other better transfer targets.

Yes, but don't mention him again.

                          The same goes for Newcastle.

Two sacked managers since they signed him.

                          I want Tevez, not Owen.

Eto'o would be a risk. He had a difficult knee injury and no one knows if he ever will be 100% again. He is still a long way from being 100%.

Owen would be a risk because of the same reasons as Eto'o but a lot cheaper risk.

My first choice this summer would be Tevez. He is 100% fit and has showed that the english style is no problem.

                            Dont talk daft

Owen has played a dozen games in 2 seasons and sufferred 2 potentially career threatening injuries. There are major concerns whether his pace has gone and lets face it, pace was one of Owens major assets

Eto'o has played 4 or 5 times as many games in the last two seasons

Your justification of Owen is bordering on the fecking ridiculous

                              Agreed

I dont see what Tevez on his own would bring to our side

We need an out and out goalscorer not a creator / playmaker who knocks in a dozen a season

You are making a massive assumption

                                That we are signing Tevez
