Finished, Saints 1-2 Derby. Bloody great game but Guthrie will be disappointed with his performance, I think. Matt Oakley & Seth Johnson (yes, Seth Johnson) had the measure of him for the most part.

Best game of the season? Hah!
I missed the first 15mins or so, but the rest of the first half made me want to slit my wrists. In that time, Guthrie was pretty much the invisible man, which made the fact that I was watching it all the more frustrating.
Alonso, Gerrard, Maschareno, Sissoko and now this Lucas kid?
Guthrie will never get a game at Liverpool.

The defending from both sides was awful (although Derby's last-ditch defending was excellent), but there were chances galore, the woodwork struck several times, two very good goals, a good atmosphere, and fantastic desire from both sides.Originally posted by keniget View PostBest game of the season? Heh, I'm not putting you down for enjoying it, I'm just saying I didn't.
It was a fast paced, attacking game, but neither team were able to really put their foot on the ball and give the game any real flow, at least in the first half. Most of what I saw was two teams booting it up into the others half and then, because as you say, the defending was so awful, something would come of it.

That's the play-offs though mate. You never see considered, expressive attacking football. It's blood and thunder, and sheer desperation as the entire season rests on these games. They've been the same ever since their inception and I doubt it'll ever change.Originally posted by keniget View PostHeh, I'm not putting you down for enjoying it, I'm just saying I didn't.

There have been four or five classic Div One play-off finals over the years and I expect this season's will be no different. Goals, **** ups, helter-skelter football. Great stuff. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Saganowski is a strange one. Farmed out by Troyes, he's looked exceptional for Southampton - scoring goals, and many of them beauties.Originally posted by rage View Postgood game. Guthrie didn't stand out tbh. The Southampton striker on loan from some french outfit was exceptional, unlucky not to score. Play offs are great compared to what it used to be like many years ago.
Compared to what they used to be like? They've always been fantastic entertainment IMO. I attended a few play off finals in the very early 90s (and even more semi-finals) and they were ****ing great fun. With such a huge prize on offer, the tension is always palpable and they seem to conjure a lot of goals.
Admittedly, defending always seems to go out of the window but who gives a ****?
The Baggies-Wolves game tomorrow should be a belter. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Haha, the game finished at about 2pm.Originally posted by alunevans View Posthow is woody playing?
Guthrie wasn't great in all honestly. A few neat and tidy touches and had a five minute spell when he was getting his passes off very quickly and accurately, but for the most part he was anonymous and Oakley and Johnson ran the show in the middle of the park for Derby. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
