How much are a talent worth?

There is a lot of talk over here about a 16 year old called Håvard Nordtveit. He plays for Haugesund in Adecco-ligaen (championship), but isn`t a regular.
The big norwegian clubs wants him, but has more or less given up. chelski has allready had over turned down. Yesterday Arsene Wenger himself was in Haugesund to sign him, but was turned down. The offer totalled something like £2,5M.
If LFC offered £3,5M (with bonuses etc) they would probably get this kid. You`d probably have to pay £1M-£1,5M up front, the rest depending on how good he gets.
Is it worth the risk paying that amount for a talent? It seems like Rafa thinks so, but it does cut into our transfer budget.

It seems we`re looking at him as well.
The Arse are favorites, but we`re interested, along with the Scum and Bordeaux.
the Arse have offered £1,5M and a four year deal.

what if I add that the player was told the LFC doesn`t have any more money, and that he is the star signing this summer?

Ultimately if he is that good then yes. However I really think that if we are going to get in a tussle over talent this summer it should be for top first team talent. While we could save ourselves a fortune on a young player like this the likelyhood is that he will not progress to become a star and when the employment laws allow us to steal top Spanish talent for peanuts then we are best of concentrating on that at the minute.

Hopefully in two years time we will be able to take such risks but at the minute I think it would be a mistake.

If the money is available then we should spend it on young talent, as long as it doesn't have an impact on first team improving.
