No, the crock is being promised world class players to enable us to compete with Man U but ending up with the second and third choices as is now customary because we are incapable of competing at the top end of the transfer market and because despite being one of the most successful best supported clubs in the world we are still very much a second rate outfit.Originally posted by Venton View PostJesus, I am sick of it all.
We gave up on ownership without a whimper, despite the fact we were lucky enough to have a benevolent chairman who put money in year after year.
Now everyone is moaning about how the new owners won't buy us every piece of world talent going. What a crock.
Time was I used to look forward to us just playing decent football for a season and winning something. I've waited for the former and been ecstatic with the latter. But at least I wasn't chasing pieces of change being scattered in the street like we all are now.
It's not just talking to friends, or reading this forum, or all the rest of them, but I think this close season is almost the worst I can remember.
For a long time now we've been also rans, for a long time we've been in the second tier living off former glories, a club who finish in the top 4 or 5, will never really challenge for the league but may get to the odd Cup Final and may be win the odd cup. At least we had ambition and hope though - hope that with investment or new ownership we could finally buy world class talent and truly compete with the big boys. Well as of today that hope has proved to be a fruitless dream. We had one choice to make - choose the right people to make the club great again. Did we get it right? With this decision you dont get a second chance.
Man Utd and Chelsea have changed the game now. It's completely different. If they're spending £55m in the close season and we're only spending £30m when we're 21 points behind them, draw your own conclusions as to what that means in terms of our ability to compete.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

I understand your frustration, but you have summed it up. That is what is has all come down to this summer.Originally posted by Dhavlos View PostNo, the crock is being promised world class players to enable us to compete with Man U but ending up with the second and third choices as is now customary because we are incapable of competing at the top end of the transfer market and because despite being one of the most successful best supported clubs in the world we are still very much a second rate outfit.

Promises? Naive I think. We got taken over by a pair of businessmen and now think that they are not going to buy us the earth, as if they were going to be the new Abramovich (who we all derided by the way, remember?) We don't have megabucks to spend compared to man utd and chelsea. And that is what we are all spending our time bitching about.
And really we gave this to them without a murmer and happily waved our last Chairman goodbye.
I agree with an earlier poster, it is better to wake up in August. What a crock.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

People were suspsicious of them when they took over, we'd been sold on the DIC bid by Parry to the extent that people were genuinely concerned that we missed out on the best possible deal for our club and ended up with these chancers because they were the only party in town and bid more money. So these yanks, noting how badly an American takeover was received at Man U, decide to mount a massive PR campaign to win over the sceptical supporters, promising to compete with Man U and primising the manager the players he wants. Now let's see if any of these promises are kept.
Whether we were naive or not to believe it is irrelevant - if the yanks go back on their word then they're proven to lack integrity, and some one with no integrity should not be running this once proud and great club.White liquid in a bottle = Milk
