It started with the Foster Gillett excuse. He was placated and pushed the Reina and Alonso deals through. Circumstances have since changed.

It's actually pretty serious. Benitez is settled, his wife is settled and his kids are settled. He loves the club and the fans but he's a proud man and will leave rather than be messed about. G+H are playing with fire as they believe that he's too settled to quit.

Incidentally, G+H have fallen out. Hicks now wants to spend but Gillett does not...hence the friction.

Maybe you'll believe me when Benitez resigns (as that's the way it's looking at the moment).

The £8m certainly played a big part. However, Rick Parry played a huge role in convincing him that the G+H deal was better...which makes you wonder about Parry's motives. I suspect that DIC didn't see a big future for him whereas G+H gave him guarantees.

Ask yourself this: if the G+H bid was really the best bid for Liverpool, why did they need to offer such a big premium on the shares?

My point is I trust a fan with the club more than I trust people who have no affinity for the club. I accept DIC's main motive is profit, but at least with a Liverpool fan on board then what is in the best intersts of the club would be a factor for them.

The leaked document regarding the 7 years was worrying, but to me it also showed they had a clear plan to make the club successful within a given timescale, which is not necessarily a bad thing. DIC to me seemed to have a track record of success unmatched by Gillett and Hicks.

Possibly a case of grass is greener, more a case of "what might have been" and genuine concern that may be the biggest decision in the club's history was not necessarily the right one.

Would that be the same Liverpool fan who is now looking at getting a piece of Arsenal?
