works hard runs his balls off

    but

im still not sure about him - he doesnt get in the box enough and he is a striker

there ive said it let the lynch mob start ...........

Simply put - he doesn't score enough.

I'm willing to give him more time though. Hopefully he will blossom alongside Torres.

As you say you cannot fault his workrate.

No lynch mob from me mate. I agree.

I'm really not sure what Kuyt offers us apart from phenomenal work rate. Put it this way, if I was the opposition and I saw Kuyt's name on the team sheet I wouldn't be very worried about him causing us many problems.

Are you suggesting he is the Dutch Paul Dickov?

The problem is that he drops deep too often and so is not in goalscoring positions often enough. We don't know if he is doing this on Rafa's instructions or not. I would love to see him staying around the box for the majority of the game and see if he could score more .

Definitely too early too start a lynch mob

              God forbid!

Are you suggesting that he is a new and improved version of Paul Dickov?

I feel as though it's sacrilege to question whether Hard Work Dirk's good enough. I've been doing it since day one but the reaction is nearly always frenzied.

I don't think he's good enough but he's impossible not to love with his commitment to the cause and his *yawn* phenomenal work rate.

Last night, with Kuyt & Voronin, we may as well have been playing a 4-6-0. It was the same in the CL final when Rafa ludicrously decided to play Kuyt as a lone "frontman" - yet again it became a 4-6-0.

Torres and Crouch should start at Villa.

I'm hoping he'll improve this season, but on the evidence of pre-season, I'm having visions if him being no better than last. Last season he frustrated the hell out of me, especially when Crouch was being left on the bench after scoring for 2 games running.
For me, he just doesn't get into the box enough and he's not going to score too many from outside it.
I really do hope Rafa doesn't keep in the team just because of his workrate. It's goals we need, not marathon runners!
Life is NOT a journey to the grave with the goal of arriving safely in a prettily preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways in a shower of gravel and party shards, thoroughly used, utterly exhausted, and loudly proclaiming: "F*** ME, that was BRILLIANT!"

I agree with everything there Shaggy. I've been saying the same all last season too.

I agree Shaggy. I would love him to be a supreme goalscorer for us but I can't see it happening. He has no pace, his finishing is average and he hardly ever gets into goalscoring positions.

There was an example yesterday when Voronin cushioned a lovely lay off into the perfect area on the edge of the box - the area in which Kuyt should've been steaming into - yet he was nowhere to be seen and the attack fizzled out. Honestly, that side of his game reminds me of Heskey. He spends far too much time outside the box...in the centre circle, even, when we're attacking. He has no killer instinct.

Dutch Emile Heskey, he's every where except the box

the question is he was a potent goalscorer in Holland so how come he looks so impotent here? is it due to Rafa? the CL final with 4-6-0 formation being the main point, Rafa is way too negative, why?
