To be fair to him though, he did rattle the bar and went close with a volley after The Crow laid a ball for him. He just went awry and dropped deeper and deeper as the game wore on.

It was a very disjointed performance from the team last night. Not seen anything of note apart the fact that Stevie is very sharp, to make me think we're addressing issues we had last year away from home.

He reminds me of Mark Hughes.He puts himself about and always shows for the ball.He always gives 100% and he is'nt the worst finisher when he gets a chance.His first year was alright.Nothing special.He is a team player and wont let you down.I'm critical of alot in our squad but I like Kuyt.
He will get important goals for us this year.

He became that way as the season wore on though, when he first arrived he was firing shots in from everywhere. He had a pretty decent record, then hit a lean patch after new years.

Voronin is definately the wrong partner for him IMO, much to similar. Torres and Kuyt would be my starting pair.

Did Kuyt score more than 23 goals last season for us?? Last time I looked it was 13 in all comps...

Also, Berbatov had 16 assists in all comps where Kuyt had 4.

You could read The Guardian report as an indicator that he was the best player on the pitch but that wouldn't fit, would it?

I'm not having a go at you Shaggy, we all do it. Perhaps I should have said 'we see what we want to see' - it would have been less open to misinterpretation. However, I have to say that on this subject you're as guilty of it as anyone.

Kuyt is not a goal threat like Dogbreath, Van Persie, Shrek and Berbatov, and that is where the problem lies, does he worry/occupy a centre back when he's grafting for the team in the midfield? If he's occupying and pulling the centre backs all over the place this makes space for the like of Gerrard, Babel, Kewell etc to run in to.

He didn't score a goal, however you want to dress it up.

It's all well and good you and dww saying "ooh I wish you'd all stop having a go at poor hard working Dirk" - but why don't you explain why we're wrong?

I think some of Rafa's decisions are starting to piss people off. When Torres came on he played as a right winger of some sort and didn't have any impact on the game whatsoever. Squared pegs in round holes and all that.

And I'm also questioning the fact that Kewell is still considered as a winger. He doesn't seem to have that turn of pace anymore to outrun his defender, but still he's being played there.

We've seen nothing in the game yesterday to give us any hint that we're improving in an attacking sense. It's just basically a carbon copy of a performance from one of our away game last season.

As for Kuyt, he started playing as an out and out striker then started dropping deeper and deeper. Maybe it was borne out of the fact that he wasn't fed quality balls.

20M for a striker and throw him on right wing.Madness Rafa.Kewell loves to get the ball and pass it back to Riise or lay it off inside.Top wingers rarely pass back.Pennant got the ball from Carra twice in the space of seconds yesterday and both times he passed it backwards.You can say he did'nt have options,but you are at the biggest club in the world so you make something happen.A little bit of magic.The door should be opened today for a few duds and told to keep going.Villa will just crowd the midfield and defence next week and it will be down to Gerrard again.Thats just not acceptable for me.
