Chelsea have "signed" Alex from PSV so they can cope without Terry and Tevez can replace Rooney without any problems at all. The same type of player and IMO even better than Rooney..

yes - the biggest factor last year was the sale of GALLAS whod covered all the defensive positions the previous 2 seasons. without him they couldnt cope with losing a centreback. as well as alex, theyve signed ben haim who can cover full back too and they may get alves too. chavski are the team to beat this season

I'm intrigued by the Tevez - Rooney thing. Man United looked uncharacteristically devoid of ideas yesterday. They looked short of a forward who probed the defence and set up attacks and I think that Tevez + Rooney would have given them that as Rooney was learning to play the deeper role in the United game plan to perfection last season.

I think it will take Tevez a little while to settle in to be as effective. Also they need another forward to allow them to play with the freedom of last year. I can only hope that these little glitches are enough to give them the sort of slow start to the season that has seen us have to write off the title before Christmas in recent years.

I just cant see how a Rooney-Tevez partnership would work, they are both too similar and with both dropping off who becomes the furthest forward for them? Ronaldo aside, they dont have that in their armoury so much these days, Scholes doesnt bomb on as much anymore, Carrick the less said the better and Hargreaves wont score regularly for them.

it is unlikely now that any of these 3 would get in our team (although i accept scholes as truly top class up till a couple of years ago)
the likes of carrick/fletcher wouldnt even make our squad!

I think he's better than Rooney but you're right - all that money they've spunked on attacking players yet they still don't have an out-and-out centre forward other than the injury-prone Saha.

I think Carrick can do more, he occasionally shows it but at both Spurs and so far at United he has played a very disciplined role as thats what the team needed.

Both Rooney and Tevez like to drop deep but look at how Tevez handled playing alongside Messi for Argentina (except against Brazil) so it is possible to make those sort of partnerships work. It will be interesting to see if the same can be worked in the PL.

In the short term I'm looking forward to seeing who gets the nod as I would expect Nani and Anderson will need time to adapt and Saha and Solskjaer seem to find it hard to put two or three matches together in a row these days. Still I think we have all learnt not to write of United easily.

I'm in the middle of you both (perish the thought) , I don't think replacing Rooney with Tevez will have much impact, if any - Rooney is over-rated, at least in terms of consistency of an end-product. Also, with Alex i think Chelsea have stronger depth at the back, and if they get Alves (again, perish the thought) they will be solid all over the park.

Gerrard means more to us than any player from our rivals. I'd HATE losing him for any period of time.

I'd say Ronaldo is a close second in terms of importance to the Mancs.
