Seat numbers are decided not by crowd size but the ability to move large numbers of people in and out of the stadium and local area. Road size, parking, amenities like shops, toilets etc all come into the frame. When Dortmund filled in the corners of their stadium to increase from 60000 to 84000, 300 million euros had to be spent on improving the infrastructure around East Dortmund, this included widening of autobahns and upgrading the tram system.Last edited by kev776; 08-05-08, 11:35 AM.Those that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law.

Rumour from my cousin who is a steward ( and an odd job man at Melwood) is that most of the board including Moores is dead against a 60 000 maximun capacity and wants the designs changed to allow for later growth. Hicks wants the 60 000 only to save face and prove he can deliver a reduced cost stadium. Those that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law.

i beliee if dic come in they will want a bigger stadium so the whole process will start all over again. their trademark if you like.
would we fill an 80,000 seater week in week out ?"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.
"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

In fact would we fill a 65k stadium immediately?
I know we have 20-30k people of season ticket waiting list but people have been waiting for 10+ years on that list, peoples circumstances change over 1 year let alone 10, how many people on that list now have a family, have moved, have a job with more responsibility and less free time etc.
I'm not saying we wont or cant do it, in fact for the big games we could more than fill it but what about a game against stoke on a wet Monday night?
Transport will make a massive difference to people wanting to go or not, adding an extra 20k people can make an extreme difference to getting to and from the ground, look at the difference on roads when its half term etc when there is about a 3% difference of people on the road at rush hour.
The way the scum grew their stadium and attendances gradually was perfect, the fact that they always had a waiting list for tickets until recently helped the idea that the "theatre of wank" was special and tickets were something to be treasured and got no questions asked if the opportunity arose and it was balanced by them playing fantastic football, having fantastic marketing and being incredibly successful.
Going to 60k first is definitely the right thing to do first (which is lucky) and lets then take a fresh look at the situation then but expansion is obviously very important.
70-80k immediately though????? It’s a much bigger risk then what I think an awful lot of people understand imo and a stadium with a regular large capacity of empty seats with effect other revenues generated from it being accepted that Anfield can create an atmosphere like no otherLast edited by Dirk07; 08-05-08, 12:23 PM.

I agree with this and it will result in more rounds of negotiotion with the council, another planning application, more wine-ing from some everton fans who will want this as a joint stadium, a reveiw to look into fesability of said joint stadium (which will ultimatly fail), another round of talks with the council and a planning application, by which time it will be 7yrs down the road and dic will be looking for a new buyer, someone no doubt who will have different ideas about the stadium and start the whole saga off again.
Just look at the face: it's vacant, with a hint of sadness. Like a drunk who's lost a bet.

Very true.Originally posted by kev776 View PostSeat numbers are decided not by crowd size but the ability to move large numbers of people in and out of the stadium and local area. I would also add that Liverpool as a city requires a lot more hotels.
It is almost impossible to book a hotel room for a game if you wait until tickets have gone on general sale.Oh I don't know.

Heres an old article that hints at DIC using a hotel chain in the development of a new stadium..

DIC Liverpool takeover back on
Credit Crunch opens the door, with DIC confident of a deal for Liverpool within the month
Long-time pursuers of Liverpool, Dubai International Capital are reportedly set to be within three or four weeks of making a bid for complete control of Anfield.
DIC is set to offer £400million for Liverpool FC, and would also bring in a minority investor. DIC, who lost out to Gillett and Hicks in the race for Liverpool last year, are said to be confident that Hicks will sell now, despite Hicks recently being adament he won't sell at all.
Although DIC, which is the private equity investment arm of the Dubai government, realises it is paying a high price for Liverpool – Gillett and Hicks bought the club for £219m 13 months ago – it believes it will be a price worth paying.
A source is quoted as saying: "It's not a cheap deal and Hicks is holding out but there is confidence that it will now finally happen."
DIC, whose chief executive Sameer Al-Ansari is a life-long fan of the club and who will join the board, has ambitious plans which could include involving some of its other investment vehicles in an attempt to raise its profile.
The hotel group Jumeirah could be used as part of the development of a new stadium. A wide-ranging review of the club, and its revenue streams, will be conducted.
DIC's confidence appears to stem from claims that some of the loans Hicks used to buy Liverpool are due to be refinanced again soon with the American money markets now less welcoming to big loans as a result of the credit crunch.
Edited to add the link to their portfolio
