Hope like hell that was light hearted, as the natural conclusion of such miopic statements,
would the Reds for locals only. Would the club survive the huge lose in income?
That's just Nobby's "sense of humour" mate - after all he has a Manc for a child
It's difficult for most people to accept that we simply can't fill a abigger stadia, but we can't. Simple.
We don't have the commercial attractiveness of United or the London clubs, so extra revenue in terms of box seats and all that is less too.
We have a really long waiting list for season tickets and our current club boxes are booked up for something like 12 years. I think we would fill a 60,000 seater stadium for every premiership game and knockout champions league games. I think we'd probably fill a 77,000 seater too for these. This might leave it pretty empty for the league cup though.

If we could fill a stadium that big, don't you think we'd build it that big? The stadium is self-financing if I remember, and wouldn't effect the transfer budget.

the bigger the stadium is, the more infrastructure we would have to provide too. There is a big knock on effect with this.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Clearly, it's not as cut and dried as ooh, big stadium, put it in teh park, we could have 99999999999 people come and see us every week.
BUT
I think it's numbers rather than finance why we aren't having a bigger stadium. We simply couldn't fill a 70,000 stadium often enough to warrant it's building.

Good point.
One of the conditions of the planning permission is that the stadium is no bigger than 60,000. Getting there and back would be even more of a nightmare.

I disagree. I lean more towards Bazza's theory if those 10000 extra people drive, we have to find parking spaces for another 4000 odd cars, extra staff to cope with half time drinks, extra security staff etc. I don't think being able to fill it will ever be a problem. We could probably sell 70,000 season tickets if we had them on sale.
As someone without a season ticket, let me tell you, it is hell trying to get tickets if you don't know anyone well connected. If they don't all sell out, where do they go?

I agree....I don't even bother trying for half of the games.
I WANT A SEASON TICKET.
p.s. ironically as I mentioned on another thread I watch Bristol City quite abit (cos I can always get a ticket there!)...& a season ticket in the main stand, in the middle of the pitch, is £380 a season...I repeat £380 a season...for a Div 1 team...that my friends is an outrage.
I think all of this talk of a greater capacity stadium will come to nothing anyway. It seems obvious that we will not be lodging another application, unless someone super rich takes over and is prepared to fund it all again, and possibly move out of the area. It wont happen as things stand and cant see another application going in.

anyone know when we got granted full permission for the new stadium? I know in Ireland in certain cases i have been involved with a planning application has about 5 years to get underway
