    So...are we a one-man attack?

As happy as I am to see that we've got a top striker for the first time since Owen was in his prime, it's a bit dismaying to see how pedestrian we've looked when Torres hasn't been in the lineup. Barring the CL qualifiers against Toulouse, I don't think we've scored yet without him on the pitch. While I didn't see the Pompey match, it sounds like we offered them little threat, and we didn't give Birmingham much to worry about despite our advantage in possession.

So, I guess that what I'm trying to say is that, if Torres get injured, are we ****ed?

Yup, might as well pack it in straight away if Fernando gets injured. According to reports I read in my mum's diary, when Rafa saw Torres get off to such a flying start with us, he had a private meeting with George and Hicks to enter a new clause into his and all the senior squad members' contracts, which states (and I quote):

'If El Rey Torres gets injured this season, I reserve the right to walk away from the job including Pepe Jolanda, El Jafito, Steven Rhubarb, Jamie The Wall, Xabi Iluvmenia and their respective wives, who will form my new haarem named 'Red Bitches n Ho's'

Have you been drinking tonight or something?!!

And seeing as Torres getting injured would essentially leave us with last season's strike force, IMO we could almost kiss any chance of the league goodbye. Yes he makes that much difference - he adds that rare class up front that very few strikers in the world offer

I'll consider it if you stop trying to be Mr 'Sensible-and-Rational-and-not-at-all-excited-about-having-Torres'

I think 'excited' is the wrong word, I was watching the game today in a different state of mind and I just have this confidence in Torres that I just don't seem to go overboard with it. I dunno, it's just that I'm happy to watch him play so well but I also expect it, in a way, for lack of better explanation.

It's like 'Yup, bang, goal, spot on, ****ing yes', but I have this air of calm around me due to the fact that he's just so good, I dunno how to explain it...trying to think of an anagram here, a metaphor...can't think of one, but it's just like, I appreciate him for what he is on the pitch and if he ain't there, I know that he will be back again, so I don't get all uptight when he isn't.

It's like, if you love your partner to bits and she goes off on a trip with her girlfriends I don't go to my mate's complaining about her not being there, I appreciate her's having a bit of time to herself, or something. Christ on a bike

Could say that about all the big teams. If United lose Ronaldo they look very ordinary up front, Drogba for Chelsea and Fabragas for the Gunners. Also need to remember we were missing Gerrard, Alonso and Agger.

Torres is our only complete striker. The other strikers is good at two, three things. The difference is that Torres can do what they can even better and he has qualities our other strikers don't have.

He is simply our best striker by a mile.

There is a reason to why every team feels that they can get at least a point if Torres is left on the bench or isn't included in the squad at all.

If Torres plays then we have a mental advantage from the start. That will more or less disappear if Torres don't start the game.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

He can't and won't play every game, so you'll have to get used to him being benched often. We just need more players of his quality to win matches when he's not there, or other players sharing the goalscoring burden.

Rafa though, thinks he has them already at the club, as much as we don't agree with him.

His calmness is front of goal is what makes him special, all 3 goals were different

tHe first blistering pace and a pass into the goal

the second the way he opened up his body to put it in the top corner

the third a 1 on 1 with the keeper and rolled it into the net

the third one stands out for me as soon as he was confirmed as onside you just had every confidence that it was going in the back of the net

a confidence I would not have felt had it been any of the other strikers

( I am not knocking our other strikers here its just that El Nino is that bit special)
Lawrenson:"Well thats 3 good chances they have had in the first 3 minutes of this half"

Motson:"" Yes Mark, you could almost say that they have had 3 chances in as many minutes"

Lawrenson: Errr I thought I just did say that, John"

                            Torres - 20m +
                            Kuyt - 9m
                            Crouch - 7m
                            Voronin - free

                            You do the maths!

Our other strikers are more than capable, but the above should give you the answers to your questions regarding our strikeforce.

Your too good to be true, can't take the ball off you you got a heavenly touch, you pass like Sounness to rush. And when we're pissed in the bars we thank the Lord that your ours

We are not a one man attack, its just Torres is so good that when he is not there he will be missed. The problems the last couple of games has been service from midfield, I thought the passing last night was better than it has been for the last couple of games
