Should LFC sign Owen will AFII still be banned from posting about him?

On the signing of Owen for £6m it all boils down to how many games Raffa thinks he'd get out of him.
No, no, no.........I'm only scary 'cause I'm hairy

Big year for me 2008, hope it all goes well for me, oh, and you lot too!

I think the 6 million is due to the release clause. Big Sam confirmed that it was between 9 and 11 million in the summer. Even if there is no clause he is in the last year of his contract next season. I cant see him moving for more than 8 million which is a fair price for us I guess.

Personally I would luv to have him here. Especially if he continues the trend of scoring hat tricks against the geordies , it would be so so funny

Allardyce desperate to keep star strikers
            Comment

DESPITE knowing that retaining the services of Obafemi Martins and Michael Owen could be out of his hands, Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce thinks losing either part of his £27m strikeforce would plunge next season's preparations into chaos.

Allardyce knows that if would-be suitors put a £13m offer on the table for Martins or a £9m deal for Owen, then the decision to stay at St James' Park will rest purely on the players' shoulders.

With Arsenal considering a move for both and Manchester rivals United and City among those credited with an interest in bargain buy Owen, the Magpies could face a fight to keep the two.

Having such clauses inserted into his players' contracts is something Allardyce has insisted will become a thing of the past now he is in charge, even though he made the most of one himself when the £5.5m buy-out loophole was triggered in Joey Barton's contract.

He is trying to remain optimistic that both Martins and Owen will decide to stay on Tyneside if anyone meets the asking price before the start of the new campaign on August 11.

Allardyce believes keeping the two international strikers in his squad to compete for the places in attack with Mark Viduka and Shola Ameobi will give Newcastle a healthy start as they look to make inroads towards the top six in the new season, although he is worried.

"If those clauses are invoked, there's nothing we can do about it," said the former Bolton boss, speaking at a press conference to announce Newcastle's new multi-million pound partnership with beer giants Carling.

"I'm disappointed that the clauses exist but I can live with it. I understand it and we have to get on with it. The situation from my point of view is when does someone come forward for the players with the clauses - at what point do they do it? How do I plan for it?

"I want to plan for Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins to definitely start the season here with me. I'm going to do that. But I'm in a position where at some point between now and the end of August, I might lose those type of players. That would be a massive blow for me and this football club.

"I would love them to stay and what I do between now and the start of the season could have an influence on those players wanting to stay."

After a week in which new owner Mike Ashley signalled his intention by clearing out the old board and appointing a new one to work alongside chairman Freddy Shepherd, the Newcastle boss remains on the look-out for fresh faces to strengthen his under-achieving squad.

He has admitted an interest in signing former Middlesbrough midfielder Geremi - freed by Chelsea - and is satisfied the takeover process has not got in the way of his own recruitment drive.

In the past Newcastle have had to make expensive late moves in the transfer market, illustrated by signings like Owen and Albert Luque, to try to fill gaps.

But Allardyce said: "I would like clauses to be eradicated if possible. We have moved quickly in the transfer market and in my experience, the quicker you move, the cheaper it is.

"As time goes by, instead of getting cheaper, the more expensive it gets. And the quicker you move in the market and the more targets you can hit, the better. Otherwise you could panic buy in August. That's the worst type of business any club can do, particularly a club like Newcastle.

"You end up with negotiations that could leave you with clauses in contracts like we have now. It's the way of the world, it's never going to stop. "

The only departure so far under Allardyce has been Scott Parker to West Ham in a £7m deal and he views that as 'good business' for the club.

And with both Stephen Carr and Celestine Babayaro available for transfer there are sure to be more outgoings before the start of the campaign.

But Allardyce is keen to land at least four more players before that time, with Geremi and Marseille defender Habib Beye two who could be among those.

"There's a need for four more players in the squad, particularly in the defensive areas," said the 52-year-old, who confirmed that Damien Duff is not expected back from a knee injury until November.

Newcastle were also expecting David Rozehnal's £3m move from Paris St Germain to be completed last night.

Allardyce is believed to have flown to Spain last night, for talks with Barcelona's Brazilian defender / midfielder Edmilson and Eidur Gudjohnsen.

As much as it pains me for £6m, if true, we should buy him

Haven't read all the other posts so don't know what everyone else thinks but I'd have to say that I don't want him back due to the way he left and then messed us about the following summer. However if he did come back him and Torres would be deadly together.

I'm sure Owen would love to come back aswell.

£6 mil for maybe the best goal poacher in English Footy, (I would say striker but Rooney's all round game is probably better now) is a bargain, as has been mentioned rotation would benefit him no end, he knows where to be in/around the box and I think he'd fit into Rafa's style of play. At the end of the day he's and ex-liverpool player and I think most fans would be glad to have him back, I definately would.

I would like him back to put an end to "Owen back to LFC" stuff but then it would all be about how often he gets injured, how many goals he's not scoring, we should have got ...... instead blah blah blah

Its a tricky one for sure. Couple of things I feel are worth considering though. One Owen for me needs the whole team to play a certain way in order for him to be productive. It seems he does not fit into systems, systems fit his style of play. Secondly lets not forget he did **** us over, when I say us I mean the club and the fans. I'll sign dont worry bollox that went on for so long only for him are biggest asset at the time to be practically given away for nothing, it was not all just the money mens doing he had his say. Not sure I can forgive him for that.

That said. Owen and Torres upfront is the stuff of dreams
