I think part of owens catalogue of injuries is managers ( England and Barcodes) trying to rush him back too soon, this wouldnt happen at liverpool as the rotation would give him time for his body to recover between games.......... this is what Rafa's rotation policy is all about
Lawrenson:"Well thats 3 good chances they have had in the first 3 minutes of this half"

Motson:"" Yes Mark, you could almost say that they have had 3 chances in as many minutes"

Lawrenson: Errr I thought I just did say that, John"

A player can now buy himself out of his contract after three years into a four year deal so it really don't matter if the clause exist or not.

      Just to inform you

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

He didnt post about Owen tho did he?

He merely pointed out the current situation with every players contract and cited Michael Owen's reported wage as an example

for six million i think owen would be worth going for.

but a quick workd on anelka though:

when he came to us in Jan/feb of 2002 he had not played at PSG for months after a change in coach and the (inevtiable?) falling out he had.

he took about 6 weeks to get back to full match fitness for us- and under GH/tommo our best games in terms of attacking play and style were:

              newcastle at home
              ipswich away

in which anelka owen and heskey formed an awesome front 3- owen bombing on, anelka dropping deep to either link play or turn and run at defenders- and emile peeling off to the left to create more space for the midfield to run into (think murphy's 2 goals ve barcodes)

we basically got him match fit, settled, wanting to stay (and sign a very cheap suppossed to scare him off weekly wage if rumours are true) working hard for the team and looking every inch the player that burst onto the scene with arsenal.

forget his goals or lack of- he'd been away from england for 3 years and wsn't match fit. his vision, pace, movement, strength and technique added a new dimension to liverpool and i for one was gutted we didn't sign him on the permanent deal.

anelka really is amongst the premier players in the world (i don't like the term world class) who made the wrong move at the wrong age to madrid, returned to PSG which while in his native Paris, is far too small for his talent.

he got shafted by Houllier but still managed a very respectable goals return at a struggling man city- under various managers over a number of years and his goals arguably kept them in the league.

he is apparently a quiet lad who keeps himself to himself but for me has the talent (and probably now the maturity) to really shine at the top level of the game- i think he's wasted at bolton and i'm sure he does too.

look at his goals record- very good at every club he played for (even for us its respectable)

PLUS, he obviously likes living in the north west (4 clubs in this part of the world) and would love to get back into the upper echelons of the game imo.

he seemed to think he was joining us in the january that we signed morientes-presumably he was the back up deal- so i'm guessing rafa likes him as a player.

forget the danger of a player settling into the club- he knows our place. he knows the league and is proven in very average teams BUT has also played for some of the biggest and done well (champs league semi final for madrid versus barca- he scored)

if you ask me if there is one player we could sign who'd make an immediate impact it would be nico.
him and torres would frighten the life out of most teams and i really would go all out to get him in january

              we signed diouf instead.

Think that was the company line mate, rumour was we had "committed" to buying him, Ged changed his mind & wanted Diouf so instead of backing out of deal offered him a very small contract thinking he would throw a wobbly and reject it looking like "le Sulk" that everyone thought he was. Instead he accepted it and Parry had to make out the brothers were impossible to deal with

Would love to see him & Torres up front, talk about a fearful & awesome strike force !!!

                        Good post.

I liked Anelka when he was Liverpool and that Newcastle game he played in was amongst the best football played under the Thommo/ Houllier regime.

Also, not that it matters of course to Rafa, Anelka was highly rated and liked by the rest of the players during his time at Liverpool and they were gobsmacked to see him go (reference Gerrard's autobiography).

Referencing the 4 clubs in North West - I can think of LFC, Man City and Bolton. Please put me out of my misery and tell me the other club.

but Owen's last injury had nothing to do with his hamstrings so something totally different was just one of thoose things.

Anelka would be a good shout but Owen IMO would give that extra goal threat - the lad loves to score goals and does so by the bucket full.
