Without a doubt - class player, but would we have got Torres if we didn't sacrifice Garcia?
Supposedly we've got heaps of cash following the takeover and it would have made more sense to give Madrid 26m (?) to invoke the buyout clause - that way we could have kept Garcia aswell. Strange decision that one...

I know man, that was an odd one, but maybe it was something personal, from what I remember Luis family didnt settle too well over here so maybe a move to Ateltico (regardless of Torres) was ideal.

But if we could have kept him

I would even go and say others (igor, Pongo, Mellor, ALT) stepped up when Gerrard went missing, esp Garcia, without him we would not have gotten anywhere.
I think the two key players were Garcia and Gerrard in that campaign - not necessarily due to being the best players just that their ability to get goals when needed bred confidence in what we are doing. To me Gerrards contribution was more psychological than in terms of playing in that campaign (final excepted).

I can see where you're coming from, esp when he scored that goal against Olympiakos, he did attain some sort of talismanic status.

after the 2 lethargic performances for england this week i hope rafa has the guts to drop him for the derby. he needs a wake up call.

Im close to saying drop him meself, but really I just wanna see him on the right. He always does better for us out there. He goes missing too much in the middle if hes not doing his spectacular stuff

hmm, if Alonso is fit then I would like to see a 5 man midfield with Stevie in a free role.

just doesnt look right paul and hasnt since the injury. had the opportunity tonight to shine, captain of his country, playing in the role he wants, advance to the euros but he failed and he failed bad. not a problem for me slating him cos when he is awsome, i call that too. he has some baggage going into the derby here and we dont need any of it

Torres for me cause he's our only good striker, Stevie can miss a couple of games and not be missed much because we have Mash, Xabi, Lucas and Momo to come in for him.

If we lose Torres then its Kuyt,Crouch and Crow dont have great confidence in that lineup

I can really see this time next year Torres having at least 2 new strike partners.

I hope so buddy ive been calling for it since the summer. Looking at Torres just shows how bad the rest of them are.

Torres derseves a quality intelligent player beside him....lethal

Gerrrard is our most important player, when he's at the top of his game he can win the match on his own. The problem is, we haven't seen his best for far too long and to be honest, he seems more interested in England now than LFC. Maybe this will change now England are more or less out of the Euro's.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

Hope so. I would only keep the Crow from our current 4.

Ideally I'd like to see Rafa play with a cm pairing of Mascher and Xabi with Stevie maybe just ahead of them or maybe even part of a forward 3?[/

I agree with this, Steven Gerrard would be lethal in this position, this is where he's at his best just behind the strike force. You have to look at this way, if you were the opposing team and you saw the defence and midfield that we have and then see Gerrard and say Torres or any of the other strikers playing in this position....you would be seriously worried.

This formation would have a massive pschycological effect on opposing teams and I think we would create a lot of damage playing in this formation, a lot more than we're doing at present, you'd also start to see Gerrard getting in to double figures aswell. I would really like to see Rafa trying this formation out as I think it would pay massive dividends.

yup, Maybe the Crow will stay as he does look quite decent, but Crouch and Kuyt really look more suited to the Championship rather than the Champions League. I am sorry to say this as I do like them, but even I can see their limitations.
