All the confidence in the world wont matter if the player cant be arsed.

I see what you mean, but I dont think that is the problem.

In a recent interview our new assistant coach talked about that the players should not be afraid to ask for the ball. I think many of them where tonight.

They didnt look like they particularly wanted it tonight. Werent looking too bothered or fussed.

That's what i mean by lack of motivation. They didnt want it enough, didnt seem to have much in them.

I think is is all linked. If a player is low on confidence he is not going to go looking for the ball and therefor he is going to look like he could do better, work harder and so on.

For me tonight Voronin and Kuyt in particular seemed to suffer from this.

For me tonight Voronin and Kuyt in particular seemed to suffer from this.

They can be linked, but motivation and confidence are different things.

Confidence often comes from good results/performances.

Motivation needs to mostly come from the manager.

Although I don't think Kuyt is good enough for us, I wouldn't criticise him for lack of effort.
