If so many players under perform then we can't expect to win games against anyone.
It's the players that need to take a good hard look at themseleves this morning all the manager can do is pick the team but if they can't control and pass the ball there isn't much he can do. I thought his tactics were ok and apart from maybe Crouch I bet most would have picked the same team. We are playing poorly at the min but I'm convinced we'll turn it round.
From the players available last night I would have gone along with the same lineup excpet I would have had Crouch on from the start. Fully agree with what you say Ian, the players you highlighted were poor.

Channel 4 News online takes the temperature in cyberspace following Liverpool's defeat in Turkey.
Questions are being asked of Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez following his side's 2-1 loss to Besiktas.
The defeat means the Merseyside club are unlikely to make is past the first group stage of the Champions League, leading to increased frustration among fans.
Channel 4 News online looks at some of the chatroom reaction to Benitez's tactics.
Shankly Gates.co.uk
JonArniesLeftBoot: "Rafa's stubborn determination not to keep a settled side is starting to make our side look disorganised and disjointed.
"There is no coherence or fluency, no understanding on the pitch. Has he taken us as far as he is likely to? Hence the 'Houllier syndrome'.
'This has been coming for a long time ... but the 'In Benitez we trust' brigade will have none of it.'
Rafa El Gaffer"This is becoming a team that expects so much, appears to have reached near the summit of their goal.....but is actually not making any more progress."
jrf63: "Benitez was way off the mark tonight, and we were lucky to win against EFC at the weekend, and things don't look like getting any better. We have to keep the faith, but this downward trend is very disturbing to watch."

kevinlfc 1979: "Rafael benitez has lost the plot and his days at liverpool should come to an end sooner than later, av just about had all i can take with him, his decisions are bad, and his after match interviews are pathetic, i cant take no more excuses, we are s**t and everyone knows it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
North Wales Red: "I'm seriously wondering how many of the players actually like Benitez. Sure they all respect him but how many like him? Maybe it's not important but how many of them go out and think let's do it for Rafa?"
Rafa El Gaffer: "This has been coming for a long time. I along with others have tried to tell you that we saw this gradual deterioration but the 'In Benitez we trust' brigade were having none of it.
"How Benitez can tell us he will take responsibility for tactics and then not put Crouch on at HT is beyond me.
"It didn't take a genius to see that it looked like we were playing a bunch of umpa lumpas. Height was not exactly their strong point.

Godwearsred: "If you notice, we are starting to get the same quotes from Rafa as we did at the end of GH's reign.
"He said in his interview that we had 28 attempts and their keeper was outstanding. I can't remember their keeper making too many saves, in fact i can't remeber us having too many attempts either..."

IMO Rafa is changing the way we play. He is looking for more free flowing football and the classic pass and move. It was working at the start of the season and then trailed of for some reason. The main reason he is not playing Crouch is because he is our kick and run striker. Rafa does not want us to play that way and therefor is not picking him.
I personally think we would have had a better chance of winning with him in the team but I like Rafa for sticking to it and trying to force the players to play pass and move.

I said in a post a few days back that the beginning of the end for Houllier was when he got a few bad results when trying to play more expansive football and then reverted to what he was more comfortable with. I don't know how close you are to the truth but its a post that gives me reason for optimism.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

Then there is always the fact that Rafa has a far better team then Houllier ever did. IMO the players who can go with us to the top are:
Time passes quickly, and it is easy to forget that Rafa got us to 2 CL finals the 3 years he has been here.
FA cup we won too.
And we are still unbeaten in the league this year...
Something is afoot, I tell you.
Rafa is not perfect, but sure no fool.
