    U18's vs West Brom

A strong Liverpool Under-18 side had a frustrating day in front of goal as they were held to a goalless draw at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Spanish starlet Daniel Pachecho had a superb match and caused the Baggies defence all sorts of problems, but try as they might Hughie McAuley's side just couldn't find the net.

"It was a fantastic game of football and we played some terrific football and should have won about 6-0 to be honest," reflected McAuley.

"We had chance after chance, one on one's with their goalkeeper, but we just couldn't score.

"Pachecho played very well and some of the things he did with the ball was quite outstanding and it was good to give our Hungarian striker Krisztian Nemeth a game after his injury.

"I can't fault our performance as we played very well, and sometimes in football you have games like this when you dominate but don't find the net.

"We now look forward to next Saturday's derby when we host Everton at the Academy."

Liverpool team: Dean Bouzanis, Steven Irwin, Shane O'Connor, Daniel Ayala, Joe Kennedy, Sean Highdale, David Amoo, Astrit Ajdarevic, Daniel Pachecho, Nathan Eccleston, Krisztian Nemeth (Gerrardo Bruna 60). Subs' unused: Alex Kacaniklic, Martin Hansen (GK), Mattone Awang, Ben Parsonage.

Looking like a very strong squad now.We should do very well in the FA youth cup again.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro

Yep, it looks these lads can do very well in the Carling Cup next year as well, and it will give them much needed experience.

I feel Rafa's best spending has been done strengthening the youth system. We may well feel the benefit in 3 or 4 years time.

Wenger's team now average 23/24 years age. They were bought at around the same age (17/18) and have been nurtured into a way of playing.

Nice to see Pachecho, Ayala and Bruna playing. We could win the youth cup for a 3rd year in a row this season.

Piet Hamberg did the same thing at Grasshoppers of Zurich from an earlier age:

I think it's important to bring the best players in from abroad but it's more important to train with the youngsters from in and around Liverpool twice daily and work with them. From the age of 12 they can have six years development here with us until they are 18 and then we will all be pleasantly surprised at their progress, I am very sure about that.
It's got to be the way forward, to nurture a talented group of youngsters from around the world with a local core and develop them into a team that can replace any of the established stars in the future.

We won't need splash out that much money in four, five years time. More and more clubs are doing the same so the price for a player will soon start to go down. The best players will still cost big money because of their image rights is worth a lot of money but the price for players below them will go down.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

2nd, he is carrying a slight knock and isn't 100% fit yet.

there's been a brilliant 2 part interview with piet Hamberg in the LFC magazine, talks about his philosophies, how they're getting '100%' added to the kits next season to remind them how they must perform every game, and that LFC is going to buy a school and the kids who go there will get lessons in football every day - really sounds like he knows his stuff
