Depressing news, as if the late equalizer wasn't enough

Rafael Benitez was left to rue a triple injury blow following the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Anfield.
The Liverpool manager revealed that Xabi Alonso has suffered a recurrence of his metatarsal injury and Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano are both nursing knocks.

Benitez said: "Unfortunately Xabi injured his metatarsal but I don't think it's as serious as the problem he had.

"Fernando was training well on Friday but it was clear that he had problems during the game. He couldn't use his pace and we didn't see the real Torres.

"And Mascherano had a kick to his ankle. I will need to check with the doctor to see how the players are in the next two days."

I think Masherano will be a huge loss with Alonso being injured.
I think Torres may have been hiding something in order to play today. He never really got started.

Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

So we are left with Gerrard, Lucas and Sissoko as options in the middle then.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

We only need two of them, and Maschers injury is a "Knock"

I thought that would have been a much better idea especially as we had the lead at the time.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

A huge blow. Xabi makes such a difference to us. Positionally and tactically he's very astute. It was a great bit of play to win the free kick for the goal and we're far more cohesive when he plays.

                        Come in Lucas Leiva.

Xabi was terrible in his last four games before his injury.A problem that is endemic in most of our players this season.

In saying that we gave a good account of ourselves today while in a slump. We just almost beat the League leaders.we`re turning a corner.
