    Injuries are imploding our season

Yesterday we were a different team while Xabi was on the pitch.
His range of passing, ability to slow the game down and vision have been sorely missed and will be again.....

We all the knew the news on his injury was not good, but now Torres has also suffered a recurrence of his injury and JM is also injured.

That's 4 key players injured (Agger) and add kewell and Pennant to that too.

We're going to be very thin in the next few weeks and maybe it is a good time to bring one or to youngsters (Lucas) and Benayoun in to play more often.

Crouch also deserves a start as the first line striker of he did more in 45 minutes than Kuyt (barring 2 penalties) and Voronin have done in 6 weeks.

I am not sure about the fitness of Kewell, but i think Rafa may have to look at playing Crouch and Babel / Kuyt together as well as Yossi in the same team.

We can not afford to play defensively and need to attack teams.....

Let's just hope that Xabi, Torres and Masch are back soon!

If Utd lost Rio, Scholes and Rooney to injury, the machine would continue to function.

We've heard a lot about this philosophy that revolves around the strength of our squad. It's kind've fallen apart, hasn't it?

We have been only to put out 2 of our first choice defenders for the last couple of weeks, in midfield we have Xabi, Mascherano, Pennant and Kewell out injured thats not far of our strongest midfield and have go our best striker injured so thats 7 players that would be in the first team squad. I would like Manure to do without them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It looks like Mascherano will be out for a while too

          Triple injury blow hits Liverpool

Liverpool trio Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano all face spells out after suffering injuries in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Arsenal.

Alonso (metatarsal) and Torres (abductor muscle) both had recurrences of the injuries which had kept them out for a month.

Alonso limped off after 68 minutes while Torres was replaced by Peter Crouch at half-time.

Mascherano suffered a foot injury and left with his foot in a medical boot.

Manager Rafael Benitez said: "Alonso has suffered the same injury again, the metatarsal, he felt something go in his foot.

"Torres also has a similar injury, a problem with an abductor muscle. Maybe he is not as bad as before. But he could not work as hard as we wanted, we wanted his pace and it was not available.

"He just was not fit. We talked beforehand and he said he was fine. Now we must wait again, he had been out for some time and we have been pushing to get him back, but he has not been right and he still is not right.

"I will need to check with the doctor to see how the players are in the next two days."

Benitez admitted his side paid the price for the injuries they experienced during the game at Anfield.

"We had problems when we lost Torres and then Alonso. We could not control the midfield then, we also had Mascherano with a foot injury and had lost (Mohamed) Sissoko beforehand with sickness," he said.

"In the end there were too many problems against a really good team."

But he praised the contribution of his captain Steven Gerrard who netted Liverpool's goal after a difficult week.

"Stevie has been playing better and this was a very good performance," he added.

"We had a plan to use the strikers wide and for Stevie to attack through the middle with two holding players behind.

"But when we started losing players through injury, it just became too difficult to get forward.

"What pleased me most was the commitment of the players, our supporters should be happy with the efforts they put in against a very good team like Arsenal.

"Arsenal are playing well, a fantastic team. But it is too early, we are six points behind with a game in hand and there is a long way to go yet."

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Yeah, the whole team started poorly and were bedding in new players, but they started picking up points, didn't they?

I reckon if you take those three out now, they'll be much weaker, but they'd still pick up points.

its hard for any team to lose so many key players, but injuries happen in a season, we can only hope the guys come back soon and other squad members step up to the plate in the meantime.

We had even more injuries the 2004-05 season when we won the CL.

Maybe it will be good for the team with less rotation because Rafa soon won't have any players left to rotate.

If Alonso and also Mascherano ar both injured then this means we should get to see Lucas play. At least I'm finding this quite exciting a prospect to look forward to.

                        Yep.

Where's that supposedly great squad strength that Rafa keeps harping on about?

Come on be fair, we've basically the spine of our team missing and we are still unbeaten. No-one ever claimed the squad were all as good as each other. Consider we've had all of the following out at some point this season:

                          Arbeloa
                          Gerrard
                          Carra
                          Aurelio
                          Agger
                          Xabi
                          Torres
                          Pennant
                          Momo

That's almost a whole team. No other team would have done as well.

Hell, if Arsenal only has Fabregas out, they'd suffer more than we have.
