One more thing to add to the list, Rafa mentioned this, and I saw it yesterday.

Xabi moves the ball very quickly, often so quickly that the opposing team hasn't had a chance to reset their formation yet and hence he's getting someone on the ball who have time and space in which to operate. Thats priceless

As far as I'm concerned he is the most cultured and subtle midfielder in Europe. I've argued at length on here that Xabi is the most important player in our team, and I believe yesterday proved it. He is the key man, and we are much better side with even an off-form Xabi Alonso in it. Tying him up to a new deal could possibly have been the most significant piece of summer transfer dealing out of the lot, especially as he looked close to leaving.
If it's true that he will be out for around a month then it's better than expected. If he had broken the same bone as last time then he could have been out 3-4 months according to my girlfriend. She is a nurse and works with all kind of foot injuries so I guess that she should know.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

a breath of fresh air is how I will describe Xabi. Gutted that he got injured again.

Not my thread but as far as I'm concerned Est's Paul Merson and his delusional ramblings with regards to Xabi are not welcome.

Indeed, it could have been a lot worse I guess but any amount of time when Xabi is out is bad news iMO, especially as he's just returned and showed us what we're missing.

I agree Dhavlos. He's a huge player for us.

xabi is pure class and was moulded in the traditional way of liverpool players.

possession is everything. a few more could do with a reminder of that.

i'm sure he was close to leaving and i'm sure that the big fat contract he was offered help him stay. i don't have a problem with that as he is so vital for us

Exactly. if Xabi doesn't deserve a huge contract who does?

Every other central midfielder looks at their best when he's next to them which just about sums up how good he is. He's brilliant and helps others to play brilliant. Sissoko especially needs Alonso next to him.

He's a pivotal cog in our machine without doubt

Bitterly disappointed that he's out again for several weeks, I just hope Lucas gets his chance and can do a good job for us
