Yes but the current Arsenal squad is full of players that Wenger has plucked from nowhere and made into world class players. Van Persie, Fabregas, Toure, Clichy, Flamini, cost less than £10M combined - a Dirk Kuyt. That lot would sell for £70M.

Not only that, just buying them is still on the hard part, the hard part is that Wenger makes them top class and has them playing in a brilliant manner.



What do you mean our youngsters have too much pressure on them? When did we last blood a young player? Babel is 20, the same age Vieira was in 1996 when he came and took the Premiership by storm.

Ronaldo came on against Bolton on his debut and tore the right back a new arsehole - he had it in him from day one. Also in his debut season he played 29 times in the league alone (age 18 - 2 years younger than Babel) and most of them were starts - he has never played more than 34 - so what is your point?

I´d say that every attacking player ,brought in since the takeover, from the age of 16-19 is more technically talented then Crouch, Voronin or Kuyt where at the same age.

I dont know what to say. I have seen these boys play, and I have seen Crouch, Kuyt and Voronin play.

It´s just my opinion.

Having said that, I also think Pongolle is a more technically gifted player then our current trio. That does not make him a better player.

but you couldnt have seen vornonin, kuyt or crouch play at 16-19.

Maybe not Flamini but you are taking just one player from that list and beating me with me. That's not fair. They came to Anfield with Flamini as a holding player and gave us a lesson in passing football - whereas we had 3 world class midfielders in there.

if you look at the current arsenal squad there not many young world class players in there who he brought through the ranks.
don't get me wrong, i respect wenger's work and he sometimes excels in scouting younger players but in terms of the current squad there's too much hype about the young players.
fabregas is a great youngster he developed but who else came through their ranks who has been signed at the age of 16, 17 who you consider at least a world class talent?

I think the problem is that you concentrate on world class players which is a bit of a red herring. Only Gallas, Rosicky and Silva came to Arsenal from their current first XI with anything like the quality they have now. As has been pointed out whether you want to call them world class every other team in the PL would be interested in all of the first choice players in the Arsenal team and most of them have been bought through from an age under 20.

I'm sure Viera and Petit took a good year to settle before they won the title in the 97/98 season.
From what I remember about Ronaldo, it was obvious he had skills in his first season, but couldnt cross for ****, didnt track back and made wrong decisions, but as has been said, you could tell with time, proper coaching and a licence to express himself he would come good.

flamini has had quite a good season so far but was average at best before.
clichy is surely not world class though he's had a great season as well so far, like most of them. but there's players like adebayor or senderors or many others who would be absolutely slaughtered on this board if they played for us. i don't doubt for a second that wenger brings in some great talent but there's many highly rated players amongst them and many who never make the grade. thing is though, most of them players were bought when they were 19 or 20, hardly kids no more i'd say.

as for van persie, everybody was talking about him, some even considered him a greater talent as robben.

from my recollection, viera was awesome to start with, then his form dipped dramatically because of the sending offs etc. Petit looked like a carthorse when he first arrived and Ronaldo you nailed my thoughts there

Because he refuse to play for Feyenoord in his last season after an argument with his manager during the season before he left. Due to this his contract was running out when Arsenal bought him which allowed them to get him for a bargain price.

I always thought viera looked promising, but it took a year for the partnership with Petit to click, it was very surprising as Petit didnt look special at the time.

oh, the other thing I wanted to add was that 10 yrs ago, players had a bit more time to develop and Wenger was also very lucky in that he inherited a a brilliant defence and goal keeper and Wright and Bergkamp. Essentially he need to improve in midfield and was able to take a year to tweak it and allow Viera and Petit to find their feet.
