Momo: 'I played very, very ****'

Momo Sissoko has spoken frankly about his form and admitted his performances of late haven't been up to scratch.
The Mali international spoke of his desire to get back to the kind of inspired form he displayed during his first season on Merseyside.

Sissoko admits he was particularly disappointed with his display against Marseille last month, when his mistake helped set up the visitors' winner.

He told LFC Magazine: "I have gone over it in my head. It was a really bad moment for me. The manager put me in the team and I played very, very ****.

"I know we didn't play well as a team but it was my mistake that led to the goal.

"I also know that this happens in football. I look at that situation and realise I have learned something new about the game.

"The manager told me not to worry too much. He reminded me that every player makes mistakes, that I am still young and I will learn from it."

The 22-year-old added: "I had some good moments at the start of my Liverpool career. The start of my second season was good, too, but then I got injured.

"At the beginning of this season I felt I was doing well but since then I haven't been happy with my performances."

Sissoko scored his first Liverpool goal against Sunderland earlier in the season.

Stunning performances against West Ham in the 2006 FA Cup final and Barcelona in last season's Champions League have ensured that whatever he does from now on, he'll always have a special place in the hearts of Kopites everywhere.

damn is he only 22! forget how young he is. But the fact of the matter is that he has been shockingly poor, especially in terms of first touch and passing.

it is painful to see how much better the others are compared to Momo.

He's like the girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead. When he is good he is very, very good, but when he is bad ...
Its good to see him analysing his performances. I like him and hope he can develop his game, because on form he's a monster.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

Agree with that - and at 22 he will get better. The lad just needs a few decent games.

To be honest I think he needs to get a run of games before his form returns. The problem is he is unlikely to get that with us. It's a shame but I think we are going to have to let him go in the interests of both parties. I would however love him to turn it around in the Christmas/New Year fixture pile up as he is a unique player who on form gives a lot to the team.

However in the long run he needs to develop a method to mean that he is less wasteful when off form. It is a real killer to have him in the team when he is so careless with possession.

I've always been curious about comments like that. People don't always get better with age. I'm sure I could name a lot of people who peaked in their late teens and early twenties but then disappeared. A bit of myth I think.

It's not a rule, by any means, but unless his injuries have really had a significant affect I think it's unlikely that he will continue to play as poorly as he currently is. He was pretty awesome in his first season and, injury aside, you don't lose that overnight.

a player should, if he is any good, get better with age. A better understanding of his position, role, fitness, vision, awareness and general handling of the role should come. Look at Stevie, Cesc, Toure, Scholes, Giggs, Ronaldo, kaka, Henry, Lampard, Carra, Terry, Viera Petit amongst many many who have developed and gotten better with age.

I think you can find counter examples though - the one that springs to mind is Lee Sharpe. I would also make a case for Nicky Butt although at a later age. I'm sure there are more but you tend not to remember players who fizzled out.

very true and I think that says more about the players personality. But to be fair to Sharpe he did have some bad injuries.
I'm sure the likes of Fowler, Sharpe, Kluivert, Yorke, Duncan Ferguson will all accept that they should have become even better players than what they promised in their youths.
