I suspect that we need to get the stadium refinanced before we think about any big transfers (at least without selling before we buy) which accounts for the delay sorting out the transfer for Mascher (which we apparently have first option on anyway at the end of his loan).
They said we would compete against Man U in the transfer market. But they did not say when. I think it is unfair to expect it to be now. We will have to get the new stadium built before we will really be able to compete.

As for Mascher. I think Rafa should be given the benefit of the doubt. We have not let Mascher go. And if we will we have not seen how good the team is going to be next season.

And also, the midfielders Rafa has brought in have all adapted very quickly. Xabi, Momo and Mascher all slotted right in. And if Maschers replacement will be brought in in Jan he will have 5 months to prepare and should be ready for next season.

So my conclusion is that to say it is a bad plan to not buy Mascher for 17m is making to many assumptions and not having enough faith in Rafa.

I think Rafa will buy Masch if he feels that £17m for him is justified. Rafa knows he is here for the long term so he wont be thinking that he might have lesser money for an attacking player unless he has identified someone he really wants (like Torres). Would you rather keep a worldclass player or let him go just so that you can buy the Amauris/Mario Gomes of the world. Keeping Masch would be a better choice in the long run unless it was a choice between signing Masch or someone like Aguero and that is under the assumption that there is not enough money for both anyway.

I wouldn't like to pay more that £10m for a holding midfielder player. And I certainly wouldn't go anywhere near the reported £17m for him. For that kind of money I would want somebody who can hold, tackle, pass, score, dictate games, set up goals and is in general an all rounder (Xabi,Pirlo). £17m to 'hold'? No thanks.
Fair enough I see were you are coming from, but players who do what masher do are always under appreciated

I´m just saying that there are so many young players out there that we have never seen play.

And I for one am sure at least one of them is world class.

the lad is an absolute diamond. if we want a pass and move team then we need to snap up every player like masher we can find. i'd happily pay 17m for him.

Well that is not the definition of "world class" is it. A world class player would be one of the best in the world in his position like Eto'o, Villa, Henry. Torres, Aguero will be in a few years time. Players like Lucas, Babel have shown a lot of potential at this stage but that doesnt necessarily mean they will be world class.

I see the phrase 'world class' and I sigh. Deeply.

But the fact is that even if we have more money then before, we dont have money to burn. (yet)

So it is IMHO quite possible that there is a player out there good enough for it to be better to spend the money in other ways.

Was that not the whole reason for selling the club?

                            That makes no sense.
