    Keane in Rafa to Seville

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is the rumour currently fizzing round SoccerEx in South Africa even as I type. Utter utter bollocks, obviously, but apparently all the media sorts are buying into it.

Sad thing is - Source of the rumour is a certain big nosed ex manager of ours, ably assisted by Matt Lorenzo and his other Sky Sports mates.

Just a little insight into the working of the third estate.

Never trust a Kirkby baghead, kids.

The yanks will know what we feel tonight but will it make any difference to them? Probably not so lets still back Rafa 10million percent and show rafa at least, how much we all love the man.
      So that's it then?

A rally tonight? A few songs and then thanks for the memories?

Read this post which was on YNWA:

Good post on YNWA about this courtesy of Knox Harrington:

The show of support for the manager is going to be f***ing brilliant. You know it, I know it. It's going to knock the socks off anything.

But there's no guarantee that, allied to a win - and it will be a tough game - is going to get the job done. The job being keeping Rafa Benitez at Anfield. The next step in this process, beyond more of the same at Bolton, is to start asking the sort of difficult questions that the owners are currently avoiding as Rafa is the story. And they have to be asked as publically as possible.

Historically, I'm against this carry on. I'm against phone-ins and the like. But in this instance the entire game is now being played out in public. Any individual who believes there wasn't a problem prior to Thursday is, frankly, deluding his or herself. Rafa chose to make this public. He wants this played out in the public domain. Knowing what we know, he isn't allowed to sell and he has been blocked from signing free transfers prior to Thursday.

The only logical reason for that is that there are plans afoot for him not to be Liverpool manager over the short or medium-term. (January/next summer).*

This may or may not be a footballing decision. I veer towards the not, you may think otherwise, but with the support the manager has we deserve to know whether or not it is. There's a series of questions thrown up by this affair which currently aren't being engaged with elsewhere.

      - Is the football club well served by two owners who only turn up for big games, while wanting to control major activity of the football club?
      - Are they adequately supporting Rafa?
      - What, precisely, is Rick Parry's role in this and at the club?
      - Have the weaknesses of the American economy undermined the plans of our new owners?
      - What touch of brilliance are we going to see from the Hicks/Gillet partnership that marks them out above the DIC option as said to us by Parry at the time of the takeover?

What we have to do after Wednesday is ask these questions. Write to the newspapers, national and local, to the club and start ringing the dreaded phone-ins.

When you speak to the phone-ins, both local and national, stay on the point. Don't get side tracked into discussions of Benitez's record or current form - tomorrow night makes every point about that for you. He is supported by the vast, vast majority of the support. Make the point that we are being woefully underinformed and that there is more going on than Rafa being grouchy in a press conference and from that point build into one of the above questions. Don't over commit into answers, don't over-complicate. Just stick to your point. eg:

Caller: It's coming to something when we can't make a move for a player until they can be bothered to head over for Man U at home.
Spoony: But don't you think the owners have the right to question his record in the transfer market?
Caller: Tonight/Wednesday makes the point the point what the supporters think of that. And don't we, as supporters, have the right to question why they won't back the manager and allow him to make free transfers? Is it that they are that strapped for cash or that they don't back him. How can they not back him when they aren't even here on the ground. Do you think they even watched the game tonight/Wednesday, Spoony?
      Spoony: Well....

Call the phone-in host by name. This isn't John Humphries. These are people who like the fact you are being "friendly" with them.

Some people need to take the responsibility to ring Merseyside, others 5Live. If at home I'll hit 5live at 10pm though I do hope to be at the game. It doesn't need to happen tomorrow night but it needs to start happening after tomorrow night.

Get calling and writing and emailing. This is what we do next for Rafa.

*Even if you disagree with this logical reason, the only other reason is incompetence. If you believe that then start asking about that. This cannot be allowed to happen again. We've every right to demand more from the owners.

I'm going to ignore all this bull**** about Rafa leaving and enjoy the match tonight.

Life goes on and we support the team, not just the manager.

All this talk is doing my head in

I can't help but wonder what it is doing to the players - especially those who would be most loyal to RB - can they just "block it out" like Gerrard suggested ?

What are the odds in Rafa getting the sack with the bookies?
              * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

look if rafa is going based on athens and his 'dissent' in public then tbh, its not surprising is it. I'd be sacked if i said to my customers that my bosses don't know what they're doing. Without knowing FOR SURE that he was a) promised everything he wanted and b) was all along in disagreement with the transfers strategy or c) that its really the refinancing during the credit crunch that is stopping us and he rejects that then what he said after athens and again last week was simply petulant. probably worse than anything mourinho has ever said. If its the Yanks that have reneged on their side of the bargain (no longer going to invest funds) then clearly Rafa's right. Morres and Parry screwed up big time and we're stuck with one or btoh of our owners being a pair of c-units. Unfortunately, they are the owners and we have to live with that.

Anyway, if rafa does go. I cannot think of anyone better to come in afterwards. Who else is available that you would bring in above jose?

Now I'd be desperately sad to see Rafa go. I love the guy and do believe in his project - its clear we are starting to look like a machine a la Valencia and it would be sad, if this squad did win the league, that he didnt get the plaudits (but he would with us fans i reckon). BUT IF he has to go, then who would you honestly want to take it on?

Mourinho, would win us over on Day 1 by repeating what he has already said but with the word Liverpool in the sentence. He will say that he was asked about this job before he moved to Chelsea and this was the one he preferred then but he'd already given his word to the chavs. he will smile, he'll be a cheeky chappy and say he is determined to do everything possible to deliver the success we want and we'd all back him.

I think jose'll already admire our squad and will have said he doesnt need a huge kitty to get things working. this'd be crucial for any rafa replacement.

anyway, until Rafa does go, this is all irrelevant. I think rafa will 'wind his neck in,' we'll start winning a few games and he'll win the league before being sacked. My main concern is that rafa clearly isnt afraid of getting the sack - why? not just the millions he'd get but crucially for me, he clearly doesnt believe in what he's seen of the yanks' strategy. That's the scary part.

Well the big question if Rafa does go is -

What the **** will happen to zonal marking?
