So he is selling for $500 mil, not $1billion then. So noone is going to stump up $1bil.

I just get the feeling that Hicks has realised this is not the type of investment that can be run 6,000 miles away - it needs full time attention and serious cash - the inflating stadium costs must be making him think, and all this Rafa business now...

Hicks is a businessman, and if he can make a suitable return on his investment it might be in everyones best interests if he sells right now.

Well if its true he was looking at buying into Roma then that suggests it is the type of business he can run from the Alamo.

At the minute we can all just guess and mine is, Gillett is the main one interested, Hicks was brought in to help him with the money and the Stadium. He's done the stadium so Gillett has got what he wanted. George will now find someone more suitable to work with. Lets not forget, Hicks was on board and owner all in the space of about a fortnight were George had had his eye on us for a while. It could prove to be quite a clever move by George in the long run.

Having said all that I would take this report with a pinch of salt.

If it's only Hicks shares then the price would be £500m, not a billion.

                Hicks shares probably around £150m-£200m.
Their part of the new stadium....£200m+.

If you look it this way then the one billion valuation isn't that much overpriced.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I see no reason why DIC wouldn't be back if what they say is true about being real fans and that they were gutted to miss out on the club. Remember they would be dealing with new owners now in the Americans who I'm sure they have no issues with, and not Moores who they said they were affronted by at the time (although admittedly they would have to deal with Parry again). I guess it all depends if Gillett wants to sell his share because I don't see DIC willing to go into partnership and power share.

I think we were all on board with Hicks' grander design for New Anfield (78,000 capacity to rival Old Trafford) and hope it will be realised at some point. But it seems at the mo that his presence is breeding disharmony through the club and the consequent speculation is putting undue pressure on Rafa and the players. I don't know what will happen, and I don't really have a preference, except to say that with the credit squeeze and the weak dollar, may be we would be better off if our owners weren't American?

Reds play down Hicks sale talk

Liverpool have distanced themselves from claims that American co-owner Tom Hicks is considering selling his stake in the Anfield club.

Sources close to the millionaire say he was made aware of speculation growing about a rift with co-owner George Gillett, and suggestions that he would be selling up, several days ago.

It is believed that in conversations earlier this week Hicks was angered by the suggestions and denied them to key figures at Anfield.

Hicks and Gillett are believed to be on the brink of sealing finances to build their revamped £400million new stadium in Stanley Park.

In the current tough financial market that has taken them some time and they have found world banks reluctant to loan cash for such a major scheme.

And in the midst of this, the row with boss Rafael Benitez over transfer policy has also sprung up, with the prospect at one stage that the Spaniard's public insubordination could cost him his job.

But in recent days that conflict has been smoothed over, thanks largely to a lengthy meeting between Parry and Benitez ahead of Wednesday's 4-1 Champions League win over Porto.

It was around this time, it is understood, that Hicks made it clear that speculation about him selling up was not true.
