Ahem
Actually
Owen never had a great first touch. Most of Owens wonder goals involved sprinting from outside the box and using his natural pace (ala Argentina 1998, and Arsenal 2001). His control was never as good as Torres in the box.
Also because Keegan and Fowler et al have won more (at this stage) doesn't make them better strikers. It means they played in a better side that was more dominant.
Also do read the title of the thread..."potentially the best striker we have EVER had"

When he's achieved with us what Keegan, Hunt, St. John, Rush, Kenny, Fowler and yes even Owen have, then he'll rightfully belong.
Fact is we haven't won anything with him, yet.
But, let's be honest here, for the first time since Owen left we have a top class centre forward. So why not get carried away about it?

Fair enough with the "potentially" comment, but you go on to say that none of our previous strikers could have scored that goal, which I happen to believe is painfully inaccurate.
Rush, Kenny, Beardo Keegan and especailly Fowler could all have scored that goal and have all scored similar goals in their time.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

He's awesome. Period.
Honestly, I thought he was overrated at Atleti, as his scoring totals weren't that impressive. I thought he'd need some time to adapt in his first season with us. Boy was I wrong.
He's been a revelation ever since he put on the Red shirt. Definitely the best striker we've had since a young Fowler, and arguably the best striker in the Premiership right now. Other than Drogba, I don't think anyone else in the league is at his level.
You've got to love watching him play...he's got pace, strength, is good on the ball, makes excellent runs, harasses defenders and isn't afraid to take a kicking. He misses his share of chances, but makes so many chances on his own that he more than makes up for it.
There's just a level of excitement, of expectation, whenever he gets the ball, that I haven't felt since seeing a young Michael Owen in full flight. And he absolutely scares the **** out of opposing defenses.
I wouldn't trade him for any other striker in the world

Agreed. Take another look at that Fowler video to see what he was capable of.

He is simply amazing, his power and movement is phenomenal, the ease in which is runs past defenders is a joy to behold, some of the turns he made last night leaning into his defender was just how on earth did he do that.
Just hope we can get a decent song to sing for him ...
His name is Torres

I don`t know if this has been mentioned before, but Torres looks very right footed. He only use his left to stop the ball (and a shot yesterday).
When he poked the ball over with his right foot yesterday most players would have taken another step and tried with their left.
He`s a great player, and it`s fantastic to see what his right foot can do. It can actually be that his left foot is pretty decent, but his right is so good he`ll use it 95% of the time.Blank

He's scored two or three with his left already though.Originally posted by Resu View PostI don`t know if this has been mentioned before, but Torres looks very right footed. He only use his left to stop the ball (and a shot yesterday).

Who cares if he's as good as Fowler or whatever. Who cares.
The fact is we have a top, top striker on our books - at last! A genuine world class striker. It's so exciting. For me he's in the very top bracket of striker - with only the likes of Drogba and Eto'o keeping him company.
Wouldn't swap him for ANYONE.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I thought he was showing great confidence when he tried that. I think he figured it was his best opportunity to take the ball early and surprise their 'keeper.Originally posted by Resu View PostI don`t know if this has been mentioned before, but Torres looks very right footed. Would've been a beautiful finish if it had come off.....Francis.

I`m not saying he isn`t a great player, because he is.
It`s just fun to see how he goes past players outside on the left and only uses his right foot. He has the speed and skill to do it, and it actually puts him in a better position because he can curl it around the keeper with his right.
And as I said, he`s left probably isn`t bad at all, but his right is fantastic.Blank

It was very clever, it took the keeper by surprise since most players would have used he left foot.
Not many players can skin a defender to the left and only use the right foot, but Torres can. He also knows he can do it and uses it to get the ball on his right foot and find the bottom corner.Blank
