    The SG 'reach around' thread

How good is he 'right' now? Absolutely amazing with Kewell, Torres, Lucas and Yossi on the right and even more importantly, no Momo to ruin the play.

This is to all of you morons who thought that Gerrrard belonged at RM. You know nothing about football. Clearly Gerrard is the 'right' man for the job¨at CM. 'Right'?

That's because there simply isn't one.

Gerrard is good in the middle when he's got a playmaker next to him, when he's not burdened with the job of starting attacks he's much more comfortable to do his thing. Lucas ran the show today and Gerrard made the impact he's expected to do.

Remember how he looked like in this midfield earlier in the season?

Gerrard realises he now has a competant striker he can pass to that can stick it in the back of the net. Gerrard is no longer the big fish in the small pond. Torres, imho, has helped Gerrard find a hunger again. Dare I say Torres has stepped into the boots of an old Owen to give Stevie that extra verve?

All the other players are feeding off this positivity around the pitch and the results are coming our way.

Either that, or I'm talking Sh1t because I'm buzzing off all our recent results.

Because Gerrard was always the best option at advanced CM. The problem was never him. It was Momo and the others Rafa played around him.

And all the other posters who claimed that we couldn't play ball without Alonso and his passing. Where are they?

Owen was a good striker but Torres is in a completely different level.

One goal and two assists and a foot in the last goal as well. He might be able to play anywhere but CM is the best value, clearly.

Gerrard was the playmaker today. Lucas was the HM. Gerrard WAS the show today.

Disagree, I don't think your definition of a playmaker is accurate.

There simply wasn't / isn't even a debate imho. He is one of THE best CMs in the world.

I would like to think Torres is a class above him. But I won't get too carried away and see if he can give these sort of performances day in day out over a few seasons.

Either way, he's been worth every penny so far.

I beg to differ. I came up with the definition in 1938 during the world cup in Italy

Look at Gerrard. He was online with Lucas at CM in this match when we had possession and Gerrard dictated the pace. He threw the big passes. Lucas was never the playmaker today. Not even close. That was Gerrard and only Gerrard.

Torres is an infinitely better player than Owen IMO (creates his own chances etc, great touch and control etc), but he is not yet a finisher in the same class as Owen was for us (remember under Houllier we'd only create one or two chances a game but Owen would invariably score them). Once Torres becomes the a bit more clinical and starts putting away the type of chances he had at Newcastle which he tends to occasionally miss, then I think we will have the best striker in world football.

Either way, he has exceeded all expectations. Top player

The thing is we now have players who can fill that RM slot so it makes it easier for stevie to play in the middle, i always thought it was out of necessity rather than choice that stevie ever played out there. But he's in fantastic form, and with him and torres we've got the basis of a side that can score the goals to win us the league this season. If we beat tthe mancs i'll really believe we can do it. I do wish stevie wold share the corners and free kicks around, i mean he doesn't have to take them all, at least let harry take the left footed corners or one or two free kicks or even benni.
