that's why we should be in for another LB if Riise is sold, I don't think we can count on aurelio, so a new first choice LB with aurelio as backup should be fineOriginally posted by Johnny View PostRiise is best kept to rotate with Aurelio and Arbeloa is best rotated with Finnan. All four are just as important as each other in a full season.Thomas Hicks Senior

We all know what we see on the pitch week in week out. It's clear that, whilst once a decent player, this season Riise has failed to capture his previous form. In fact, it speaks volumes when people are praising him for his performance against Bolton. yes he played well enough, but this is the minimum I would expect from the man. He didnt play exceptionally well, he just didn't play badly as we have seen him do too often recently.
Unless he brings goals back to his game, he will not last too much longer at the club, at least not as a first choice player. The frustration in the stadium when riise gets the ball is tangible.Last edited by Jazzmaster; 04-12-07, 11:49 AM.Fernando Torres
I dont just love him, I'm IN love with him

I agree with the points on Riise's defensive frailties, but I also dont think he's anywhere near as bad as some make out.
That said, we can most definitely improve.
I think Arbeloa is a great full back and prefer to see him on the pitch over Riise, but I see him as challenging Finnan for his RB place
Aurelio hasn't been seen enough IMO. He's looked good when we have seen him, but needs a sustained injury free run to prove his worth
Gareth Bale looks like a different kettle of kippers though. Absolutely outstanding against Birmingham, even though they lost. If he is available, then we should break the bank to sign him. He looks like exactly the type of fullback that Rafa wants. Good tackler, good positioning, awesome going forward
Unfortunately, I cant think of any reason why Spurs would let him go
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

While there is some truth in that if you took that attitude literally then after each injury we would never have started Kewell. You have to look at what they have shown they can provide as well as their current form and analyse whether there are reasons that they may not reattain previous heights.Originally posted by AFII View PostIt's over a year since he last scored a goal in the league. Have NEVER rated Riise as a fullback with or without KewellOriginally posted by Skillz View PostRiise will play better with Kewell, he always does.
Think about it.....the last time Riise was in good consistent form was 05-06 when Kewell was a regular (oct-may).

Well I think we can do a lot better too, actually. I was just pointing out that he will play better with Harry, a lot better. Still not good enough, but he is durable and therefore is worth keeping as a squad player.Originally posted by Lecter View PostHave NEVER rated Riise as a fullback with or without Kewell
Unless someone offer 3M, bite their hands off.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

He's been a good player but someone has to go and for me, I want Insua to get a chance. TBH I think Riise might be one that has to go if we want to keep Masher because he has value.Originally posted by Nic83 View PostI am a big fan of Johnny rockets. Obviously Rafa is too since he is still here. A certain MR. Mourinho was also a massive fan. That says it all. I hate reading some of the dross about him on here.

He has value for a reason!
He's not world class, no, but he is a great outlet to have in the squad. I love having him playing as an advanced fullback at anfield in games against the 'lesser' sides where we really don't need 4 defenders. Gives us an extra dimension to our attack with the left winger coming in and playing in the hole.

it's an age old saying with reason behind the wisdom.'Of course I didn't take my wife to see Rochdale as an anniversary present.
It was her birthday.
Would I have got married during the football season ?
Anyway, it was Rochdale reserves.'
