it's a bit of both, rafa decides which players can take pennos and then they decide between them who takes it, pointless having one man picked if he doesn't want to take it

to be precise, rafa selects two players each game. one of these two has to take it.

not how i read it, what if neither are on the pitch, no one takes it?

that's how i understand it. if he substitutes both of them he might have a bit of a problem

I heard that Rafa's policy is that the player who is fouled for the pen doesn't then take the spot kick. Thus Stevie didn't take the one at Everton.

It's something to do with the idea that the penalty taker will then have a more focused and clear mind than the player who was involved in the incident that led to the pen, and thus is more likely to score.

                  Hmmm...
Let's say he felt hte pressure and though he might hammer it over the bar - wouldn't it be very responsible of him to hand the duty to someone else?

Whats great is that we are scoring lots of goals we re joint top with Arsenal in the goal difference in the league 4 ahead of Manure.

Certainly a trun for the better then the last few seasons

It's been said before AA,I think I read it in Guillme Ballgue's (Can't spell his ****ing name1!) book "a season on the brink"

He mentions the CL final and that Alonso was told before hand that he'd be taking the pens that game,Rafa supposedly does this.

It'd also explain SG taking the pen in the Porto game with Torres on a hattrick, either that or SG is a greedy ****er!!

Quotes here and here indicate the players have at least some say on the day though.

i wouldn't get carried away with how much we have scored because all the teams that we have trounced in recent weeks were a shambles defensively. Though it is still great to see us with players that offer a genunine goal threat like babel, yossi and torres. If we can stick 2 or 3 away against the likes of utd then that would really show that we have moved up a level!

this is exactly the problem with the press tho, besiktas for example yes were not very good, but i doubt they get regular 8-0 hidings, we beat bolton 4-0 yesterday, the very same bolton that beat the mancs 1-0, just because we beat them well doesn't mean they were any poorer then when they've faced other teams
