I like the sound of him, pleased he got a bit of a run out and did the simple things right.

I've seen Guthrie play a couple of times for Bolton and he has impressed me more than he ever did when playing for us last season
IF he cant get enough playing time with us, which will only be obvious once Agger is back, then stick him on loan at a team such as those whereby the defence are likely to take a battering.

Stick him alongside Bramble at Wigan, that'll be a test!

After watching him yesterday, I noticed why he was played as a holding midfielder for about a year in the reserves. Seems to have learned from that experience, his passing and positioning really stood out. He's the long term replacement for Hyypia, but we still need another centre back who can actually pressure Agger/Carragher and do it now.

i deffo think a loan to a prem team will be a viable option and something we should really look into, i think one or two at the bottom will be keen to take him

Obviously you are not entirely serious but I really think that if we loan him somewhere it has to be a team with a half decent defence where he might learn something from thos around him rather than simply having to make a lot of tackles and blocks. For a top team a large amount of defending is about preventative positioning as a defensive unit. There is little point sending a young defender into a shambolic unit where in all likelihood the only impact will be to dent his confidence.

I think that the sort of solid sort of teams like Bolton or Boro would be better than say Derby. Boro would have the advantage of Southgate who at least has top level CB experience to impart.
