    Torres backs Rafa...

... not sure he should be saying it quite like this tho.

Fernando Torres has warned that if Rafa Benitez leaves Liverpool a number of the players may also think about moving on.

Benitez's relationship with club owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett has become strained in recent weeks and there has been speculation about his future.

However, Torres, who was brought to Anfield by Benitez in the summer, insists the players are so loyal to the manager they would have to consider their options if he was sacked.

The Spaniard was also happy with the way the Anfield crowd showed their support for Benitez in the 4-0 victory over Bolton on Sunday.

"He cannot leave. The fans have given their verdict and it was clear,"

"Benitez has created a team of people who are indebted to him. It's certain if he goes many players will think about their futures.

"Benitez is not just another manager. He created a team and put his faith in players that owe him a lot."

Torres produced a stunning performance against Bolton and netted Liverpool's second goal, but Benitez paid tribute to the effort of the whole team.

"It is great to have a striker who is capable of who can give you 20 goals a season but it is easier for defenders if he is the only man they have to worry about," said Benitez.

"You also need others who will give you 15 and players who can score important goals - and we have that."

As far as i can see this report appeared in a certain newspaper, now i think it was probably just part of the postmatch interviews so i doubt they spoke exclusively to torres or rafa, but thought i'd add this at the end just in case anyone brought it up

Funny how the press are packaging this up into a "Sack Rafa and I go" story - if it's not one crisis it's another! To be fair, he's only stating the obvious, a lot of the Chelsea players considered their futures when Jose got the boot but I don't anticipate much movement from them in Jan. Maybe it was a crappy translation.

About time one of them backed him. I'm not talking about the "players will consider their futures" comment, rather the "he cannot leave" comment

I think Torres was quite right in his comments. Generally things should kept in house but in this case the cat has long since been out of the bag. Telling G&H how the players feel can't do any harm, as they need to be left in no doubt how they feel about Rafa.

While I agree that the players should back the manager,I'm not so sure they should come out with statements like this.

If he did actually say it,I think it's sends out the wrong signal,it's yet another challenge to the owners, right now everyone should be concentrating on football matters and on making sure things don't get out of hand again.

On top of that his loyalties should ultimately be to LFC and not a manager.

I agree but you only have to accept that some players joins us because of Rafa and not because we are LFC.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

He did say that he joined us because of Liverpool, the club he and his friends had admired and felt a bond to from a young age.

                    total and utter balls.

press picking up on snippets and over inflating them again. He is a very big player taking very big money every week of G & H, and cant be very stupid. If rafa goes he goes, but these players just cant walk. If every player did this every time a manager was sacked can you imagine the number of players out of work.

It must have been in Spanish as he can hardly talk any English anyway.

I do think that there should be a press ban at the moment at the club until things cool
down. It will be best for all.

doesn't everyone else hate it when Liverpool are doing well!

Its funny how everytime there's something in the press people don't like its always the press at fault.

As for players leaving if Rafa left, then its quite possible the Spanish lads in particular would leave. They may have to wait 6 months or so but as we've seen on many occasions, player power rules, if a player wants out, he leaves. There's nothing much the selling club can do.

Nice sentiment from Torres, but i would have liked to have heard that from our captain.
