This weeks: What we need to go 2nd or 3rd thread

Okay so this last week we've had a few good results, the man city draw allowed us to go up to 4th, Arse only managed a draw from their game in hand and so while they're 7pts ahead at the moment, if we win our game in hand it would be down to 4pts.

    So this week we've got:

    Chelsea(31pts) v Sunderland
    Scum(33pts) v Derby County
    Reading v Liverpool(30pts)
    Middlesbrough v Arsenal(37pts) (Sunday)

So basically to go 3rd we need anything other than a chav win v Sunderland. Chavs we're lucky to win last week, and while Sunderland will offer a decent test, a draw or defeat might be pushing things, so lets hope for a draw on this one.

To go 2nd we'd also need to see the mancs lose v Derby, Derby should definitely improve under Jewell but it's not going to happen in this match, should expect mancs to win by a few goals.

While we can't go top, Arsenal visit Boro on sunday, and with a few injuries and given their poor showing v newcastle, it might not be too much to hope for a draw in this one. Boro are a funny team and at the riverside might just be able to hold arse, but again I wouldn't hope for too much from this one.

So of course that just leaves us v Reading, we should be expecting to win this game, the carling cup result earlier in the season will raise expectations, but in the kind of form we're in at the moment, we should expect to win. That should set us up nicely for our crunch match v marseille. Come on the reds.

I think Arsenal will lose against Boro. They almost didn't create anything against a very poor Newcastle.

Reading won't know what hit them.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Chelsea will win with their eyes closed. The mancs will murder derby. Arsenal will outclass ****e Boro even without their injured players.

        We better win!

Sadly all 3 of our rivals have got piss easy games and are amongst some of the worst dross to be seen in the Premiership, they will all win at a canter.

If we approach the game with the right attitude and with our strongest team we should win comfortably but it will be a hard fought game and certainly no walkover.

True, but Arsenal have a tricky run of games in the next few weeks, their time will come. Which is why we MUST be patient and keep winning.

Hmm...well, Derby and Sunderland are gonna be pulverised...

Boro have somehow got results against the top sides at the Riverside in recent years, so hope springs eternal...

Although Southgate is such a feckwit, and they dont have yakubu anymore...so i cant see it.

I agree, For all the media hype surrounding Arsenal I think they have been very lucky this year and with Fabregas and Van Persie missing I thought they looked a fairly average side.

I was talking with my mates about this and I said with the eleven that started for Aresnal against Newcastle, how many of them would get into either the Chavs, Mancs or our team? Not that many IMO

TBH though, those kinda 'would get into your team' arguments are nonsense, and mean very little IMO.

Fair comment, I was just a little surprised that they are doing as well as they have been with the lack of truely top class players and the exit of Henry in the summer

TBH They have been doing quite well even with Henry (eg. last season -when he was out for most of the season)...
