I cannot ever remember a player having such an uncertain value....

    Fernando Torres the £26.5m striker

    Liverpools £22m striker

at £18m Fernando Torres is great value

looking like a snip at £24m

    Club record £28m

Even at £28m, if we sold tomorrow we'd make a profit!!!

But back to the price, the Liverpool Echo has always quoted the price at £18 million and that is the price I tend to believe - absolut bargain!!

Yep, it's £18m for me too. A total bargain!

If we were to sell him tomorrow, I wouldn't accept a penny less than £40m.

Well, the man himself says his fee was £20m. and I think Rafa said as well that it was under £20m.

I think someone said on here (may have been Maestro?) something like we bought him for £18m-£19m, but Atletico insisted that we announce the fee as £26m so as to pacify their supporters. May be this would explain why there's so many conflicting figures being bandied about.

Either way, we got him cheap, and no doubt that's becasue he really wanted to come to us

Not only is £18m a total bargain, but it also makes a mockery of all those comments in the press about how Rafa has had unprecedented backing in the transfer market this summer. Our net spend this summer can't have been much more than £20m accounting for sales. That coupled with the money that was set aside for Heinze, Rafa should have a nuice little kitty to spend in Jan - and we know he likes to make mid-season signings to give players half a season to settle so they're flying at the start of the new season.

yeah probably around the £21 million mark, who knows what it's in the contract anyway

his value is the same as it was in the summer, only difference since then is that many english people have now seen the lad play and no one over exaggerates better than the english

Fluffed's a bit harsh. Some good saves and some very difficult chances. I only think he could have done better with one chance where he should have chipped the keeper first time.

He is worth 30million plus right now. Great investment.

I wonder how much he would have been if he'd gone to Chelski or Scum?

£18m is an absolute bargain, Pacman spends that every morning on breakfast.

A lot more is my guess, particularly if we did get him for under £20m. I'm sure the fact that he was desperate to sign for us probably saved us a few million quid.
