Set Pieces and everything else haha

Its about time Captain Fantastic (and I DO mean Fantastic) starts handing over the set pieces to others with more quality.

His corners are at best average, Id much rather use the wingers or fullbacks (especially Fabio) to take them (helps with formation when it breaks down), with SG outside the box waiting to pounce.

Our positional play from corners is just plain RANK. No-one pressures the keeper or makes diagonal run from keeper to corner of six yard box for flick on, this creates space behind the run How many times do you see the ball be cleared by defender at near post or cirner of six yard box. Use a small lad there.

No offence Im only 5'8 but in my day (yes old fart, 42) I scored at least 4 times a year from corners doing that, flick on near post goal or flick to far post for late attacker at far post.

Free kicks, cmon lads, when there are more cultured players on the field such as Fabio (geez I wished he took the last one against Manure), Harry or Alonso.

SG success rate is below par.

We score less from free kicks than the other top 3. Its all right footed every time, we seriously need to mix it up SO MOVE OVER SG.

We create many chances and against Man City we deserved more BUT Rafa waits too long to make subs, Babel HAD to come on well before he did.

Kuyt is industrious but his legs are almost gone with 20 to go considering his workrate, he had to come off NOT Kewel.

Still not convinced with JM and SG in central roles, too much distance between them and strikers, we need a good link man. Its alright to boss the midfield 40m from goal, but its the skill around the box we lack.

In the cup games Rafa needs to look at that, play Kewel behind Torres, with Babel and Yossi, those three can interchange and take turns with Torres up front, makes us more difficult to defend against and would place a strain on opposition defenders and upset their formation.

Rafa, do you SEE Slur Alex, Arsene take an over cautious approach to their young guns. BABEL has to play more from the start. Wack him up front with Torres, take a punt you may be quite suprised.

    Jan sales/purchase

Sissoko soz lad be gone. The MOST clumsiest footballer (worse than Traore ???? maybe) we,ve had. Great engine but FFS get it and give it. At least Paddy Viera realised this until he matured into a quality midfielder and had suffciient control over the ball. This guys thinks he's the bees knees, weel listen Momo WAKE UP try watching the videos of your games maaaaaaate. If Juve want him let them have him for a good fee mind you.

JAR: thanks for the loyalty (loved the piledrivers, but cant rememebr the last really good one ) but as Michael (Take the Mickey) Owen showed that doesnt always go bothways.

Sammi: Two more years mate, but if a ridiculous offer came in (fullham etc)then HE DESERVES a final payday, LFC legend with doubt.

Dirk: depends on offer, must recoup what we paid, but he probably deserves more time.
Voronin: needs more time but does have a football brain but at tmes to predictable. Not ready to draw curtain on his time at Anfield, yet!!!!

Harry: Never thought Id say this (Im an Aussie) but make the most of this extended time in the team, cause its off to the mid-ranked teams for you lad. No goals yet and your pace is gone, skill still there but the touch is going son. IF and IF he can stay injury free (a shame injuries wrecked his LFC career) then decent squad player on much reduced contract, but Flash Harry wont settle for that, his speed will return for the Dash for Cash Contract I fear.

Pennant: Well never rated him and still dont, cant score and majority of his crosses are poo, a player clearly destined for a team like Middlesborough, too lightweight goes down like he has been shot, with the slightest nudge, needs to stay on his feet and start riding the tackles. Hopefully his timeout he has been committing to memory the JC book of courage, page by page. Get what we can for him in the summer.

Purchases well no names as yet but we all know what we'd love

Quicker defenders who score the odd goal and pacey wingers who score regularly and cross with precision.

Another Agger like player would be good too. We look so much better when he plays and brings the ball out from defence, Sick of Hoofball.

I know we're jammed packed with midfielders but one more who can score and take the pressure off Stevie G. Too many holding mIdfielders I think.

Another Torres to complement the truly exquisite one we have now.

Whew, glad thats off my chest

All the best for 2008 Kopites.

Remember YNWA and THIS IS ANFIELD

    Cmon You REDS.

Remember that opinions are like anuses, everyone has one.

The second part of that sentence made me laugh.
"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

Wellcome abaord Dazza! Interesting post.................like some others here I cant agree with all of it, but who cares!!! The thing about corners. Spot on, but its almost a tradition at LFC. WE didnt have a fanzine called 'another wasted corner' for nothing!!!!
Momo...............oh dear, what a maligned player he is, but if we bear with him it'll be worth it. anyway, good post mate.!!

Can anyone give a feedback on how we practice corners in training?

Having far more corners than the opposition in the latest games (and not getting anything out of them) I just wonder if anyone has seen RB having some input on how we do them.

I guess RB has other priorities.....

Haven't we scored more goals from corners this year than any other previous year?
