The quite obvious point is that the things that Rafa used to win La Liga are highly unlikely to win the PL.

It seems obvious to me what point i'm making. Unsurprisingly, the usual suspects who cant actually argue against me with valid points, simply have their little sly digs.

I wouldn't say "highly unlikely", it's just that you can't take for granted that because he knows how to win La Liga, he knows how to win the premiership.
The same methods may or may not be succesful but I think the fundamental point here is that there is no one universal winning football strategy and anyone who is too stuborn to adapt to their environment will ultimately fail.

I got the impression that La Liga was more open and that maybe could account for the lower points tally?

Please dont say Martin HOOF O'Neill !!! He is a limited manager with one good tactic..HOOF and if it was not for Young & Agbonlahor he would have got the sack by now.
Any manager coming from Scotland will have to be extra special to win the Prem. At that rate we might as well go for McLeish, Strachan or Smith. Shankly & KING KENNY dont come along that often.

Haven't read the whole thread but I did read DJS's post.

I wasn't aware of the stats,they make interesting reading if nothing else.

If Rafa is using a La Liga mentality towards the EPL then you can see why he has fallen short.

However I think Rafa would've learned quite quickly that the same mentality wouldn't work in the EPL,very very quickly,so I put the difference down to him not being able to buy the players he wants to compete.

In the last few seasons Rafa wanted to sign Alves,Heinze and keep Owen as well as several other quality players we were unable to get.

I think that is the difference between where we are and where Rafa wants us to be.

Real and Barca are the big two. All the others take turns in challenging. It seems to me the pressure is not enough in La Liga, and the top teams get complaicent at times. It is a luxury you can not afford in the Premiership. Which is physically and mentally more demanding.
