Yanks turn to Kop fan for help

Yanks turn to Kop fan for help

    By John Cross 09/01/2008

Liverpool owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have held secret talks with millionaire John Miskelly after turning to the Northern Ireland tycoon to solve their financial crisis.

Lifelong Liverpool fan Miskelly - a property magnate - tried to put together a £250million takeover consortium last year only to lose out to the American pair.

But Hicks and Gillett have gone to Miskelly after struggling to put together a £300m refinancing package, and also need to find a further £300m for their 'new Anfield' stadium project.

After failing to find a suitable refinancing package through a bank, Hicks and Gillett are investigating other options - including an outside partner or even selling their interest.

Ulsterman Miskelly has the funds to help but he would need support to put together a full consortium bid for the club.

Even as Hicks and Gillett met in New York late last night to discuss financing a new stadium and the future of manager Rafa Benitez, the Spanish coach hit out at suggestions that he could look elsewhere as the pressure grows on him.

"I want to completely commit myself to Liverpool Football Club. I do not see my future anywhere else because I do not want to go anywhere else," said Benitez.

"I want to win trophies for my club, for our fans and for the people - and I still believe we can do this.

"There has been so much improvement here over the last couple of seasons and I believe there is still a lot more to come.

"The squad is now the best it has been since I first came here and we have many young players who are only going to get better.

"All I can say is that I want to be here this summer... and many other summers after that."

Another twist in the saga. Assuming its not just the media plucking names out of the air.

At least John Miskelly is a true fan and has been for long - and know of the history of the club. could be, that we end up with something like Miskelly, L4 (or the real consortium behind - not the Koptalk one), Dalglish etc. Either this could re-establish the core of Liverpool FC-traditions by having these people at the board - or it could end up, that they buy out these yanking cowboys!

By "saga", I mean the whole thing - ie the journos printing any old hearsay, and the LFC fans who are lapping it up.

Doesn't mean to say that I believe all of this media frenzy mate. I hope it all dies down soon, and Rafa is left to sort out his on-field problems.

I guess all these stories of our owners not having money to run the club will be put to rest when the work men move in and actually start to build the stadium. A few decent signings in the next two transfer windows would be nice too. At the moment, with all this off field stuff and the loss of form on the field, i don't think i'm being to melodramatic when i say our football club has become a laughing stock. I suppose it doesn't help that i work with 3 Manc season ticket holders who like to remind me of our failings on an almost daily basis! (i'm not even going to touch on the subject of Klinsman!)

                And theres more:

New investors could be lined up to help pay for new Liverpool FC stadium
Jan 9 2008 By Dave Higgerson
THE designs for Liverpool Football Club’s new home are expected to be released today after a crunch meeting in America.
Owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett were joined by club chief executive Rick Parry in New York yesterday to receive presentations from two architectural firms pitching their plans for Stanley Park.
A source familiar with the situation insisted the meeting was to pick a stadium design.
But another source said the possibilities of bringing new investors into the club to spread the risk of building the new stadium could also be discussed.
There was also speculation the future of manager Rafael Benitez would also be discussed.
Last night Walton MP Peter Kilfoyle urged the owners to end “uncertainty” and “prevarication” surrounding the club.
The Government Office North West (GONW) confirmed it would not be calling in the 60,000 seater stadium plans given permission in November, but abandoned by the club in December when costs increased from about £300m to around the mid-£300m mark.
Dallas architects HKS were told to make their plan cheaper.
That stadium had the capacity to be expanded to 76,000.
Manchester-based AFL, behind a previous proposal rejected by Hicks and Gillett because it was “obsolete”, was told to improve on its scheme for Stanley Park.
Yesterday’s meeting was to choose between the two revised plans. Club chief executive Rick Parry has previously said the new design will have a capacity of around 70,000, requiring a fresh planning application.
"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.
                The Future is Red!

Well, I hope that G&H sells up instead of spreading the risks. It's a mess already and the decisions will probably take even longer time with more owners involved.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Watching Revista la Liga last night, Ballague made a very salient point about the current specualtion surrounding Rafa. He said that since Jose Mourinho has left, the press has turned its venomous focus towards Rafa Benitez and that they seemingly would not rest until the man is out of a job at Liverpool. Now this is not a post about the future of Rafa Benitez but rather a thread about any manager of our club. If the press are hell bent on destabilising the club then it is firmly up to us to counter their attack. Our support for the manager must be loud and unequivocal to show the world that we support our manager while he is at the helm of LFC. Whether you want him to stay or want him to go, he is still the manager and we must show the gutterpress that we will not have our club influenced by the london fleet street scumbags who print lie after lie after lie about Rafa's position. For the next match at home (the away suppport always being brilliant) the chants of Rafa Rafael must be clear, confident and supportive for our man under fire.

We are not spurs or newcastle, WE ARE LIVERPOOL.

COME ON!!!!!! LETS SHOW THOSE FUPPERS WHAT A REAL CLUB IS LIKE!!!
                            Fernando Torres

I dont just love him, I'm IN love with him

The press don't like Rafa, he rarely gives them what they want in terms of interviews but all managers get attacked from time to time and the only way to silence your critics is to win games. If we were in the title race and had blown Luton away on Sunday, playing classy attacking football with an air of confidence then Rafa would be Bulletproof. It's a results driven industry and the gutter press will maul you if you give them the chance to.
