in other circs putting the kids out would do the job.

but what if he does and luton beat them. he'll get panned.

**** it. i'd be putting out my strongest side with the instruction to rip them to pieces.

a 6-0 rout would do us the world of good.

Troubled Luton manager Kevin Blackwell has admitted that some of his players could refuse to face Liverpool in tomorrow night's FA Cup third-round replay at Anfield for fear of scuppering moves away from the financially-stricken club.

Blackwell handed in his notice at the Coca-Cola League One club on Friday after the club's administrators agreed to sell captain Chris Coyne to Colchester and midfielder Dave Edwards to Wolves without his knowledge.

He and coaches Sam Ellis and John Carver will leave on February 9 and the former Leeds manager believes that he could face the prospect of players refusing to risk injury in the clash.

Blackwell said: "The way it has gone, I don't even know who I will have available to play.

"There are at least one or two players talking to other clubs and they've got to step into the arena and put their bodies on the line knowing that an injury could cost them a move to a club where they are guaranteed to get paid.

"I could be sat in the dressing room at Anfield an hour before kick-off and a player might decide that they don't want to run that risk and pull out.

"I would be bitterly disappointed if that happened but you can understand it.

"Wolves said that we could play Dave Edwards in the game but the administrator wouldn't allow it in case the deal fell through so now that seed has been sown then it must be praying on other players' minds."

Blackwell saw his side beaten 3-1 at home to Swansea on Saturday - their first defeat in six games - and believes the loss of Coyne and Edwards derailed the morale at the club.

He said: "I only found out they were going when things were signed, sealed and delivered.

"Once one went I knew it would open a can of worms in the dressing room.

"While we were all in the same boat, not getting paid but playing well and getting good results, the lads were still enjoying themselves.

"But once the group starts to break up it is difficult. The players are well aware that they will lose 15% of their salaries if we get relegated to League Two and that cannot be helped if we sell all our best players.

"The psychological effects of selling those two players at that time cannot be underestimated by people."

To compound Blackwell's selection problems goalkeeper Dean Brill is a doubt with a thigh strain and has no deputy at the club while newly-appointed captain Chris Perry is also a doubt with the same injury.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

So their goalkeeper is injured and they dont have a backup. This is crying out more and more for us to play our reserves.

We should put a few reserves in the squad but I would rather we got some confidence back into some first teamers than anything else. I would rest Torres and Gerrard (probably to the bench) and play Kuyt and Crouch upfront and probably give Skrtel a run out too. Benayoun and Babel on the wings, aim to tear them apart.

Luton may struggle to name a team at Anfield

Most League One managers would travel to Anfield worried about upsetting players by leaving them out but it is a measure of Luton Town's predicament that Kevin Blackwell fears some of his squad might prefer not to face Liverpool. With the club's administrator refusing them permission to play Chris Coyne and Dave Edwards in case injuries scupper their transfers, Blackwell is worried other players could refuse to risk their futures tonight.

"There are at least one or two players talking to other clubs and they've got to step into the arena and put their bodies on the line knowing an injury could cost them a move to a club where they are guaranteed to get paid," said Blackwell who announced on Friday he and his coaches, Sam Ellis and John Carver, will be standing down on February 9.
"I could be sat in the dressing room at Anfield an hour before kick-off and a player might decide that they don't want to run that risk and pull out.

"I would be bitterly disappointed if that happened but you can understand it. Wolves said we could play Dave Edwards in the game but the administrator wouldn't allow it in case the deal fell through, so now that seed has been sown it must be playing on other players' minds. While we were all in the same boat, not getting paid but playing well and getting good results, the lads were still enjoying themselves. But once the group starts to break up it is difficult."

Blackwell claimed he knew nothing of Coyne and Edwards leaving for Colchester and Wolves respectively until "things were signed, sealed and delivered". Edwards, a midfielder, left for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £675,000, and is contracted at Molineux until the summer of 2010. Coyne is understood to have cost around £350,000.

With Luton's newly appointed captain Chris Perry and the goalkeeper Dean Brill both doubtful through injury, tonight's side is likely to be unrecognisable from the one which drew with Liverpool at Kenilworth Road, although Blackwell has not given up hope of a giantkilling.

"I still think we've got a chance to cause an upset," he added. "We have got to be at our brilliant best and they've got to have an off day - and that can happen because of the things that are going on behind the scenes [at Liverpool]. But the game is at least a welcome respite from the wages problems, from FA charges, from the sale of players. For those that stuck around and don't know what their future holds, it's a pay day for them."

"It's a sad state of affairs. On one side a club with a caretaker manager, unhappiness amongst players, not sure who'll be the owners in few weeks time, and on the other Luton coming to town."

So tonight we welcome a team from the lower divisions who really are in administration, who haven't been paid for weeks, a team that with all that hanging over them still held us to a thoroughly deserved draw at their place, a team that has difficulty in mustering 11 players to face us.
But instead of acknowledging their predicament and saluting their resolute support still prepared to travel to Anfield to see them drubbed, we giggle at them and make our plans to protest against our owners.
