Darren, i've joined this thread late but could you explain to me why its inexplicable for a german football coach to choose to manage the biggest side in german club football

It just gets worse and worse!!
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

LOL, of all the random comments I've made today, bizarre that you picked up on this one.

I was comparing it to managing in the premiership under Liverpool. Better team, better league

i think the klinsman links have more to do with him being a neighbour of hicks in california - and also pretty high profile in the USA than anything else.

I dont think it was too serious a meeting - the diver denied being offered the job didnt he so you can imagine it wasnt too formal an "offer".

still, inexperienced as he is, he cant be such a bad coach if germany and bayern have hired him

Rafa Benitez has our full support, claim Gillett and Hicks

            Jan 14 2008

Tom Hicks and George Gillett insist that Rafael Benitez has their full support, after the startling admission they held talks with Jurgen Klinsmann.

Benitez will surely be alarmed about the revelation that the former Germany coach was sounded out about becoming the club’s next manager.

Hicks claims the talks would not have resulted in the immediate dismissal of the man who led the team to Champions League glory but that Klinsmann was “an insurance policy”.

Klinsmann is no longer an option, however, because he has agreed to take charge of Bayern Munich - and Hicks is adamant Benitez has the owners’ backing going into the second half of the season.

He said: “After George and I had our long and productive meeting with Rafa following the Manchester United match, we put all of our issues behind us and received Rafa’s commitment that he wanted to stay with Liverpool.

“We never reached agreement on an option with Jurgen, and we are both pleased for him that he has a great opportunity to return to Germany and coach a great club team.

“Rafa has both of our support, and our communication has greatly improved.

“We attempted to negotiate an option as an insurance policy to have him become manager if Rafael left for Real Madrid or other clubs that were rumoured in the press - or in case our communication spiralled out of control for some reason.”

The article also claims that had Liverpool tumbled out of the Champions League, the owners would have tried to replace Benitez.

However, Benitez steered the team through with a crucial victory against Marseille in France.

Get your hands in your pockets and get us a top striker then, ****s.

"if communication had spiraled out of control" "if rafa had left for real madrid or other big clubs rumoured in the press"

jesus christ, they guys are making big decisions about the manager based on what they read in the media? ****ing hell they must be the only ones left who believe what they read in the papers

im shocked by this revelation - not the content because i knew it already, but the act of wilful revelation by hicks.

its inkeeping with his cash-waving, snoogy-doogying unsubtlety. in fact its pretty typical of how rich americans act.

however - just like the actions above its really really ill-judged. i dont believe its a cold calculated attempt to undermine rafa - it would be a good attempt if it were but i think its just hicks being hicks and betraying his ignorance of the cultures surrounding his newly aquired business. culturally rafa is iberian - such humiliation as this is really beyond the pail. I think rafas position is untenable after today...in the sense that his personal pride wont let him continue under the americans longer than he has to to get his fair payoff.

                is it bad? - yes
will there be a price to pay i terms of the clubs on field performances? - yes
is it the end of the world? - no
have we lost our club? - no, weve got new owners who will be themselves
will lfc replace rafa with an excellent manager when he goes? - yes
will the team still turn out at the club's ground? - yes
will we get into a spanking new ground with expanded capacity in the stated timescale? - reckon so, yes
will i be there to cheer the reds on? - yes god-willing

With these two dumb heads in charge? I do not think so. Replace Rafa with Klinsman? what a joke! What has he done? Won 4 mediocre matches at home and one gifted to him by an inept manager?

Well, he shouldn't have listened to Parry who "forgot" to inform DIC about the board meeting that led to that DIC withdraw their bid.

We had promised to keep DIC informed if we would have any board meeting discussing a takeover.

That together with the leaked seven year plan. I don't know if that was leaked by Parry but it wouldn't surprise me.

In the end Parry kept his job. I hope that he feels like **** right now but I doubt it, after all, he is still our CEO and that job is so important for him.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Rafa will not walk. The dumb heads will leave before him. They have shot themselves in the foot big time. Parry will go with them.

I think this statement was released as their get out option. Do not be surprised if DIC make a full bid for their holding. (I can feel it in my waters

Got to the WC semi finals.

Bayern Munich, one of the top clubs in the game, thought he was worth the risk.

He manages them now anyway, so it's all moot.

We'll be stuck with Benitez and our lifeless title challenges and ugly football.

This was the last straw for me ... JURGEN ****ING KLINSMANN?! ****ing hell! I'm surprised they didn't go for McClown as well. ******s!

I'm sure if they would just shut the **** up, trusted Rafa and let him carry on with his work without them publishing this non-sense statements on the offal page, we would be in a much, much better position than ****ing 4 with blue****e and more blue****e and pointless club like Aston Villa.

Imagine being a player and thinking that your manager, the one who you have faith in and the one who brought the CL and FA cup title home is going to be replaced by Jurgen Klinsmann?! No wonder they underperformed lately.

it surprises me how clueless these guys are, its pretty obvious they read internet articles about football from their pads in america and thats how they keep up with the game. they should have made an effort to get to know the nature of this massive investment they've made.

maybe you're right and they've realised they are fish out of water when it comes to running one of the biggest clubs in the world
