Thats the worrying thing. Look around us, Chelsea will no doubt bring in several top players to keep up with the Mancs, Arsenal are now starting to make profits and the Mancs are run exceptionally well.

Pair this with improving sides like Villa, Everton and Citeh.

The debt spoken of will be larger than quoted I think as we'll need to add the inevitable transfers to this (however limited they are). If this is the case, I fear what our debts will actually be in 5 years time, and there is a very real danger that we will fall out of consistent european qualification...and then what?

Large debt, potential lack of european qualification will reduce our worldwide appeal and limit the attraction in bringing in world class players (not that we will be able to afford any).

It's how I always expected the new stadium to be financed, and while I'd obviously prefer someone like Abramovic to come in and pay cash, I'm not too concerned as I think the figures stack up.

My concerns were not that we need to borrow for the new stadium but that this will be added to the purchase price of the club in the first place when they said that this wouldn't happen. This is a blatant lie and will almost double our debts from what you'd have to say is fairly reasonable in todays market to balancing things on a knife edge. Without success and CL qualification, things could get very bad over the next 5 years.

i see no "overwhelming evidence" to refute a more rational interpretation of events:

that they are business men first and foremost and they are not well versed in english football, british nor spanish culture. i think they are more free with their throwaway quotes than traditional british chairmen and i think they havent adapted to the sensationalist uk press. i think theyve been hit by some very turbulent financial conditions that are forcing them to reassess their plans. i think they are in it for the long term and that lfc is a goldmnine that will serve its owners and its fans very well for decades to come.
