Arsenal's new stadium added £40m a year to their operating profits. Even if we only add half that, all the signs are that our debt will be on an Arsenal scale rather than a Utd scale once the stadium is operational. The difficulties will be in the interim years once building has started but before completion. Any idiot would work out that you need to stagger the borrowing throughout the life of the project so that it has the minimum impact on transfers. It just means that we will have two lean years in terms of transfer budgets, as Wenger had to cope with while the Emirates was being built. This is probably one of the key reasons why Arsenal, and us, invested heavily in young players that could help them get through those construction years.

I'm not saying that there aren't problems. I'm not too worried about the debt though - we were always going to have to borrow to fund the new stadium whoever took over, but the sums do add up if we can come anywhere near what Arsenal have done with the Emirates.

Maddock is spot on though, that at a time of uncertainty like this, you need stability in terms of the management. And Rafa has shown he delivers CL football reliably year after year. Trying to force him out just doesn't make sense.

Not only do I feel uncomfortable about that, it also make us unattractive to future buyers should we be in the blessed position of getting rid of the cunts.

Agree with all of you on that. The thing is, the financing side of things comes as no surprise to me. It's how I always expected the new stadium to be financed, and while I'd obviously prefer someone like Abramovic to come in and pay cash, I'm not too concerned as I think the figures stack up. We are starting from a higher fanbase than Arsenal, and are more likely to get the average crowds needed to finance the debt and generate more profits on top.

My worries are what the yanks are doing to the manager - the one manager who has delivered CL football in every year that he's been in charge. Dave U wrote a good article for his fanzine about how, regardless of any doubts you have over Benitez being able to deliver the league title, it would be madness to get rid of him as he delivers CL football consistently and that's what the modern game is all about.

As I said yesterday, I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst.
