Fair enough, we can always argue the quantity v quality point but unfortunately when you see the absolute dross he was left with, and the fact he had to basically rebuild the whole squad save for 6-7 players, on a limited budget to boot, if he went out and only bought the quality players without the squad filler of a Kuyt or a Pennant, I think he could have run the risk of having a threadbare squad, where one or two injuries could have seriously ****ed us up.
i know that fella, but for the past 5-10 years, we've been guilty of buying too many squad players, and not enough first choice starters.
also another point......We are a Top 4 team, hence we will play a lot more games than many others. so we need a bigger squad which obviously means we cant afford as many first teamers.

i know fella, i don't think it's always been intentional, i think it just boils down to some poor transfers
i'm not sure the answer, but for example, what is more likely to help us win the league
Yossi + Pennant = approx 12 million
12 million midfielder + keep Smicer
That is a total hypothetical example, because i couldn't think of another midfielder we've let go.
Great post Al, 100% agree. We need to get behind 'our own' at times like this and show him our support.
"Even men with steel hearts love to see a dog on the pitch". It generates a warmth around the ground that augurs well for mankind and that's what life's about. Trouble is these days you never see a dog on the pitch".

I've been vocal in my critique of tic tacs and selections, but as you say we need to get behind our own, and Rafa has earned my loyalty while them pair of ****s have fed us nothing but lies.
These are special circumstances for Liverpool Football Club, and for me any thought of Rafa moving on while they are in situ is out of bounds now.

We have built more to be sure of a CL place than to gamble and sign three quality players that may have made us title challengers. It was a good choice if you consider that we needed the CL money to be able to afford any players at all.
It's now Rafa can change that policy and he has done that, Torres and Babel are two good examples of that, if the owners allows him to do that.
It will be quality over quantity from now on IMO.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
