    RAFA

      Did Rafa threaten to quit?

This "threatening to quit" issue (as mentioned in another article) does seem to have an element of "no smoke without fire" to it. And Rafa does only have himself to blame. Back around the time that the club's owners met with Klinsmann, Benitez had just been on TV declaring that he might be interested in the recently vacated england managers job, if i'm not mistaken.....

It may have been a bit tongue-in-cheek, it may have been a warning to hicks and gillet - who knows.

I have huge problems with G+H in the way they went public with Rafa and their lies. However, Rafa went public first and Rafa is the one still not cutting it in the league and yes Rafa is the one who spoke about wanting the England job. I wouldn't be that bothered if Rafa was sacked...

I think rafa went public to bring the fact that they were not willing to back us with funds i.e. they had none into the public eye.

It happened about the time the they talked to Jurgen so he thought that he was about to be sacked, by letting the fans get behind him probably saved his job.

          Im glad he did it.

The only time I ever saw Rafa being asked about the England job, he just laughed. I don't believe he would have wanted it for a minute.

...Asked if he would consider taking over from Steve McClaren if the job was offered to him, he said: "You never know what might happen, maybe."

He made that statement the day after G&H had their meeting with Klinsmann.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Yeah, I always took it as a warning to G&H. So was Rafa aware of the Klinsmann meeting from the start?

To be honest, the way G&H have been, if rafa had threatened to quit, their response would've been 'quit then' and he'd have gone.

Seems to me that Rafa has always wanted to stay, but has just used his media sources to leverage more cash for transfers. Probably the reason MOores ended up giving him a loan from his own cash for Kuyt.

It seems to me all that Rafa wants is a level playing field, but he is also wary of his own reputation being tarnished. I mean, if we all b elieved Rafa had been backed to the hilt, yet his team were still doing ****e in the league, what would we all say? Rafa out probably.

I think this is one of the reasons Rafa is constantly highlighting his lack of cash. I don't blame him either. Think of all the RW he REALLY wanted - Alves, Simao, Mancini and Quaresma. All the time missing out due to lack of funding.

Instead having to go for Pennant, Stelios, Yossi and other mediocre rubbish he has gone for.
                          Forwards.......

I think they've wanted him out for quite a while so why keep him here when he 'threatens' to quit? He may have used his media buddies to create some links to other clubs but in no way was he ever prepared to walk IMO.

I think Rafa has been trying to tell the fans (without 'telling' the fans) that G&H were full of **** since Athens. If anything I believe he put his job on the line by having his strop to increase scrutiny on the owners and had he not done this it may have took longer for the fans to find out we have a couple of cowboys in charge.

Even if Rafa never wins another trophy for us I think he deserves respect for having the best interests of the club at heart at a time when we really needed someone like that within the club.
