I'm guessing they'll try to follow the Arsenal model. May be look to sell naming rights, sponsorships, etc at the same time as arranging the second phase of the loan?

sadly, most clubs have a lean period when financing a new stadium (unless someone comes in and buys it for nothing, which hasn't happened yet?), even Arsenal had a lower transfer budget recently. I don't think that we are in a position to that, we need to invest in players right now, or accept mid table status. Hopefully we can do both? (buy players and a stadium that is, not accept mid-table status...)

I have faith in several of our young players, doesnt mean we should go and give them 10 year contracts, for example.

Having faith in him doesnt negate the fact that this season has been poor and that it's no foregone conclusion that we're going to be title challengers. Why should they back themselves into a silly corner with a big contract offer?

It cost ****loads to remove Houllier and his team, let's not make the same mistake. It's conceivable, whether we like it or not, that Rafa's position might come under threat for footballing reasons and that would make it a silly move, to be handing him a 5 year contract.
I understand what you are saying, even if, as usual, I don't agree.

I'm not suggesting a 10 year contract, or even 5 year one. I think a one year extension would be sufficient in these circumstances.

Basically, what I am doing is calling out the owners, I am asking them to back up their words with actions. I'm ignoring other factors such as our poor performances this season, whether on current results Rafa deserves an extension etc. I'm putting all those aside. I admit it. But I'm doing so because I think in considering whether Rafa should be given an extension, in the current climate at Anfield, I consider them to be peripheral factors.

We know the working relationship between the owners and Rafa has broken down completely. IMO it is irreparable. However the yanks are publicly saying that this not the case, even though everyone knows the reality to be different. One bad result in the league, an exit from either of the cup competitions etc and the inevitable speculation about Rafa's future will begin again. We've already seen how that has transmitted itself on to the pitch. Hicks' statements will do nothing to quash this. Giving Rafa a contract extension will not only indicate all the problems have been put behind them, it will end the speculation, bring some stability to the club, and may be restore the fans' faith in Hicks to some extent. That's why I think in this particular case, it might worthwhile.
Won't happen of course, because as usual Hicks is talking bollocks.

without reading the thread. My take on rafa is to let him see out his contract. By then we will have a better take on what his youth policy is going to do as regards the first team and also wether he really DOES have what it takes to win the league in england. Any talk of him going before then, or even offering him a new contract at this stage is madness. Its a work in process and we need to give it time to see how it pans out.

If he gets sacked with his record it is a disgrace. If he walks out and goes to another club he is a cunt. If he stays and we get to see how his work unfolds then I will be a happy man.

I know you're drunk, but if he walks out after the way he's been treated would you really consider him to be a cunt?

How many clubs give managers a new contract, when he already has two years left to run, if his team appears to be performing below expectation?

I support Rafa 100%, no question, but these guys obviously don't and, in their eyes at least, a new contract will have to be earned through results on the pitch.

Rafa has to leave them in no doubt that he's the man to take the club forward. I'm sure he has the ability to do just that.
                        I agree

Half you lot were calling for Rafa's head before, and let's be honest most of us were questioning some of his decisions anyway, so let's not pretend everyone's 110% behind him and want to see him sign a massive new contract. If he doesn't make a ****ing good run at the league next season arguably it's time to look somewhere else - and at least then he'd only have a year left on his contract to pay up.

I know where youre coming from mate. And I know its a hypothetical question also. But (and you know how big a supporter of rafa I am) IF he was to walk out then, yes, he would be a cunt in my eyes. Yes, he`s had a raw deal, no-one denys that, but its not as raw a deal as most of us have to put up with in work every day. He is paid ****loads to manage liverpool, and that is because he is one of (the best imo) the very best managers in the world.

He will get my complete support while he is here, but if he walked out I would be of the opinion that he is a cunt, as I would see him using a dispute with the owners as an excuse for "doing a runner" either cos he wanted more money or he couldnt handle the pressure.

                              Fair enough mate.

But there is only so much a man can take. These cunts are maneuvering behind his back trying to edge him out the door. Nothing has changed today in that regard IMO. I really wouldn't blame him if he decided he;s had enough, feels he deserves better and sods off to Madrid with his pay-off.

If he ****s us off to go to madrid I will view him as just a big a cunt as the yanks. He hasnt got what he and we all thought when the new owners took over. But you dont just walk away. His job is to manage liverpool to the best of his ability with the tools he has got. He is not working with the best tools available now since the 2 tools took over

He is not cleaning bogs out though, or working down a mine. He has an air conditioned office, a huge **** off wage each week and a **** load of people that love him. Ok, his bosses are pricks, but have you ever worked for one that isnt? I havent.

Sorry mate, but if he walked he would be a huge big **** off cunt in my eyes.

But this is all hypothetical as I dont believe he will.
