Name A Replacement For Rafa!

Frank Rijkaard has flattered to deceive as a manager prior to going to Barca, got to the semis of Euro 2000 with Holland playing at home and got Sparta Rotterdam relegated for the first time in their history. Yes, he won the CL and La Liga twice at Barca but in spite of all the talent at his disposal he has seriously struggled in the last two seasons, coinciding with the departure of his assistant Ten Cate. Make of that what you will.Originally posted by Rashid View PostI'd bring in Kenny as Director of Football.
Have Frank Rijkaard or Guus Hiddink as first team coach with Roy Evans as assistant.
As for Hiddink, I think he is a far higher calibre of coach than Rijkaard and wouldn't be a bad shout to replace Rafa when he goes.
But do you think the yanks want someone like Hiddink? If the approach for Klinsmann and the dispute with Rafa tells us anything it may be that they want someone who'll toe the line and won't go running his mouth and be happy having extremely limited amount of funds for transfers. A novice for which a massive job like Liverpool would be his big break might just fit the bill.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

And those two managers also have the board/owners unequivocally backing them and are given free reign to get on with their jobs.Originally posted by Sheik Yerbouti View PostI think your Dad's marbles are fully intact. Those two are doing as good a job as Rafa with a fraction of the transfer kitty.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

At what point do you feel Rafa stopped being backed? Because this is very much his squad as witnessed by 8 of the starting 11 today being his buys and the three that were not have been great servants for the club for many years. They are his players and I'd like to know which of those 8 you think Rafa had foisted on him against his will?Originally posted by Dhavlos View PostAnd those two managers also have the board/owners unequivocally backing them and are given free reign to get on with their jobs.

He was prevented from signing Kaladze wasn't he? And what happened with Malouda? We know he was in for him as well. If you listened to Mihir Bose yesterday, he was talking about how different the Glaziers have been at Old Trafford compared to Gillett and Hicks, saying how much Ferguson was benefitting from basically having full control over footballing matters, transfers etc, while Gillett and Hicks have been keeping Rafa on a tight leash. I think Rafa himself has said how his role has changed this season and he has been stripped of responsibility.Originally posted by bigfooty View PostAt what point do you feel Rafa stopped being backed? I'm not saying the off-field problems are solely the cause of our current problems, but likewise I dont think you can underestimate their impact. Look at how people like Wenger, Ferguson, Moyes, O'Neill (who have the full backing of their board on footballing matters) have prospered, while look at how Mourinho struggled last season when he was squabbling with the Chelsea hierarchy, and draw your own conclusions.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

Well, they made certain promises about transfer funds, which they broke. He was frustrated and called them out on it. I make them more culpable than he isOriginally posted by Rashid View PostRafa is just as much to blame for the ****, he shouldn't criticise his bosses in public.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

Ferguson only had the purse strings loosened by the Glazers after providing the title. Prior to that he had a net spend of 10M across 4 transfer windows. That's what, half of what Hicks and Gillett gave Rafa in their first transfer window?Originally posted by Dhavlos View PostHe was prevented from signing Kaladze wasn't he? And what happened with Malouda? - What about him. He chose not join Liverpool citing 'sharks' being underhanded during negotiations. Oh and probably the big wage packet he got from ChelseaSarcasm Is The Lowest Form Of Wit
