    I'm glad they didn't get the gig for 2 reasons;

1; The other stadium looks far better
2; and most importantly, have a look at the picture of the Kop with the ground full and 2 teams on the pitch, the team in red shirts are wearing white socks and shorts, if they couldn't even get that right they don't deserve the job.

I don't like the corners in football grounds to be filled in. Never have done. I don't like bowls. Having the corners 'un-filled' gives stadiums a lot of their character IMO.
there are some aspects of the new design that i dont like:

I was in a pub the other day and one of the lads said that the new design looked a bit like robbie fowlers torso - a bit all over the place without any proper form.

Pretty funny but some of it is true - our stadium is unique and for some people that's a good thing and others a bad. However, I agree (just about) that the HKS design pips the AFL one - but credit to AFL who have made an effort to improve the initial soul-less design that they came up with.

I think someone said somewhere that only Hicks was in favour of the HKS design - the other decision makers at liverpool favoured the AFL one.

I guess we disagree on this one. I think the bowl make it look like a "whole" stadium, not just four separate stands put around a pit. I do agree that the open corners adds to the "sentimental" value, and makes it look like a "old fashined" british stadium. I just think it`s time move on, and try to be up to date for a change.

Which I find really difficult to comprehend. Judging by the posts on here I would say that a slight majority on here prefer the HKS design. I don't understand how 15 out of 16 people would prefer the AFL one, unless there are some specifics about both designs that we're not privy to that the committee obviously is that give the AFL the edge.

Either way, it seems picking the HKS design is as much about saving face as it is anything else, after the way the previous incarnation of the design was heralded to much fanfare last summer. Still, I am glad Hicks insisted on this one, although it does worry me that he seems to be bullying all of his plans for teh club through at the moment.

Practically every new stadium has the bowl design now, it's so unimaginative and indistinct. In theory it should be good for atmosphere as you'd expect the noise to circulate, but at Emirates there does not seem to be that effect. It's the opposite in fact. I think having distinct stands, certainly in British stadiums helps create atmosphere, as you know to look to one particular stand where the atmosphere generates. In our case it's the Kop, at Highbury it used to be the North Bank. I think it may even be the same at the Borussia Drtmund stadium.

Now it's different at the Emirates. You have a few pockets of fans that try to get songs going but they die out. They dont circulate around the bowl. You dont seem to get a booming atmosphere that you'd expect. I imagine unless people will take up the chant so that the sound circulates around, that noise will readily escape becasue the bowl shape is so open. So it could possibly make the atmosphere worse in those circumstances? I could be wrong here but that seems to be the problem with the Emirates. Too many corporate fans who dont take up the chanting, so they never get the sound circulating like it's intended.

That may not necessarily be the case at New Anfield, but I think having distinct stands cant harm the atmosphere.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

I think the new design has taken into acount what happend at Emirates. It`s been made very clear that the Kop will be the focal point of the stadium. Everybody from the old Kop, plus more, will be seated there. The Kop will take 18 000 people, if that`s not enough to get an atmosphere there is nothing any stadium design can do IMO.
To get a sound that goes all around the stadium you need people that sing, if people don`t sing there will be no noise. So one off the problems is the sandwich brigade, but you need them to generate money.

I'm not sure why we've now got a separate thread as the AFL designs were posted last night in my larger existing one but I'm not a Mod so it's not my problem!

I've posted a few snippets in the main thread as to why AFL didn't get the job but I think their revised version is a significant improvement on the original 'Parrybowl'. If I had never seen either of the two HKS designs I would have been delighted with a 72,000 capacity new stadium like that.
There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.

looks almost identical from that view, and whats with the beams going from one end of the stadium to the other, thats another aspect thats all to similar,im sure theres a reason for them though.
