Rafa is still an excellent manager but not even the best manager in the world can do anything if some players have lost faith in him and the dressing room is "a war zone"(if the thing Revo said is true).

I've calmed down just about. I can understand everyones reactions and TBH I can understand some people calling for Rafa's to be sacked. As fans we are entitled to our opinions. I'm a massive Rafa fan and I have to admit I am starting to question his ability to win us number 19 but for the moment I think we all need to get behind the manager and the team and ride the storm.

Sooner he goes the better, but I think it will be the Summer as getting a suitable replacement at this time would be almost impossible.

I voiced my doubts about Rafa in the league over a year ago. Back then I was in a tiny minority and events on the field have done nothing to change my mind since.

Athens? Great achievement yes, but a wasted opportunity due to poor selection on the day against a distinctly average Milan side as their form last season and this has demonstrated.

Unbeaten record? Well, Villa were unbeaten for about 3 months at the start of last season but they ended up mid-table. We had some pretty poor performances in that run and were very lucky it didn't come to an end prior to the Reading debacle.

It staggers me that a guy who was one of the top scorers in the Champions League last season, and one of a few players to have bagged a hat-trick against Arsenal in recent seasons I would guess, is now relegated to the role of being picked for relatively unimportant cup ties and the odd sub appearance when we need a goal. Only a manager like Rafa could place the work-rate of a Kuyt over the effectiveness of a Crouch. Endeavour over End Product, because playing decent football comes second to stopping the opponents playing decent football.

I could symapthise with the off-field troubles being an excuse but so long as Rafa continues to shoot us in the foot with his so-called tactical nouse he cannot use that as a defence. It's not as if we're even playing our best team because that would be too simple and break with our proud rotation tradition.

i sad today, but the saddest part of it all is that i have accepted that we are ****e at the moment and our season is lost. hoping and preying for a 4th spot is a ****ing sad. i'm gutted by try to take it on the chin and keep carrying on, i doubt i will watch the next match in the pub like i always do. i can't take the whining and the negativity all the time. but i have massive faith in rafa and most of the players. now my hopes rest on the champions league and the fa cup and hope that benitez gets a chance to build a team for next season and the one after that...

mate, i lurk round and have great respect for your posts, and have always backed benitiez - i simply dont or didnt think there is a better man for the job, but i just wonder if you can at least now aknowledge peoples frustrations.

I woke up at 6.30 to watch the match in sydney, as i have all the other evening games, recording all the saturday fixtures - and the recent games have been the worst quality of football since houlllier - which was diabolical. I just dont know where it has gone wrong - we have no bite, no heart and no tenacity let alone attacking flair. I just cant buy the ownership issues as being the sole cause, although i agree that they must have impacted things.

I cant defend Rafa's team selections anymore in my own mind - they are simply bizarre? The crouch issue is beyond me while kuyt is so rubbish and the picking of the team 1 hour before the game - well im no longer surprised at the lack of cohesion in the team. I dont know what the answer is but at the moment things look genuinely desperate. Perhaps a win against inter will liven us up - but otherwise we are so far behind in the league i now seriously doubt we will finish 4th.

Try re-reading some posts on here about Crouchy after most games this season.

Not necessarily meaning you personally, but people wanted him sold not too long ago, and now he's the saviour.

Couldn't agree more mate. I'm not the most prolific poster on here and never will be but sometimes you just gotta say something. I go the match (ST holder Centenary) and am not one of these ****ing internet jockies like the vast majority, many of whom are hiding behind their posts spouting ****ing garbage. For weeks now we've been backing Rafa ferociously against these two yank ****ers and now the concensus on here want him gone. Ok lads and ladies if that's what you want then get down to the match and start the Rafa out chants instead of the tap tap ****in tap of your keyboard. Look, I don't like this anymore than the next man and some of Rafa's decisions piss me right off but he's what we've got so accept I. He doesn't become a bad manager overnight so clearly somethings wrong (lost the dressing room perhaps, we don't know). What he sticks on the pitch should be and I stress SHOULD be more than enough to blow away West Hams etc. We're going through a really bad phase not helped by other factors but its happening. Get behind the team and hope the slump ends and we go on a run. I'm still very confident we can make 4th unlike the doom merchants on here. If Rafa has lost the dressing room then **** off that dressing room. They need to understand that they are their to play for LFC and Rafa, NOT THEMSELVES.

They are not there to manage, decide tactics or pick the team. They are there to follow managers instructions and play football.

As much as it pains me to say, Ferguson had it right, when any player thought they were bigger than the manager they were shipped out, no matter who they were. Ince, Beckham, Van Nistrooy, Stam.
